​Westfield Home Coming 9/21

This year's Westfield Homecoming Parade was on an unusually hot afternoon which led to everyone seeking water and shade as the waiting time progressed. Wylie, being the club's coordinator this year, decided to have everyone meet at the Noble Romans parking lot at 4:30 which worked out very well. Once the 20 or so Corvettes and 3 Penske Camaros were assembled the group headed out to nearby IN 32 and the roundabout that leads into the school assembly point. Unfortunately the parade coordinator decided to meet the cars very near the entrance and within a few minutes had the roundabout backed up as she assigned positions. Fortunately this did not cause any accidents and everyone got safely to their assigned place. Once parked everyone headed to a new for this year sign-in location where they also got a thank you bag which included a sandwich and snacks plus a much appreciated bottle of water. Of course getting there at the requested time of before 5 had the group waiting until the parades starting time of 6. During this period it was found that we had extra Corvettes that had answered the call and those not assigned positions headed for home. A lesson should be learned here as a couple of extra Corvettes could have been used, as one turned out to be assigned a family of 5 and the other because of a CI member's Corvette not starting. Unfortunately Keith will be our new Battery Club Member as he was completely dead with his key fob not working too. A quick attempt with too short jumper cables was aborted and his couple ended up on the top of an Escalade for the parade route. The parade progressed as other years, but with candy being thrown by proceeding groups the crowd of children closed in as the Corvettes at the rear went by, for a few near misses. Once the parade was over Bill checked in with Keith who was still dead in the water. Bill headed home and grabbed a jump box back and to the WHS to assist Keith getting started. Bill had also called Bob Young, who suggested putting the unresponsive key fob in the glove box slot, which also helped. The jump box worked and Keith headed to the nearby AutoZone for a new battery and also found that his key fob indeed needed a new battery, so he becomes a double battery club member! Overall the parade was a lot of fun and the club always enjoys helping out Mike Quinn's children's school.
