Trip to Door County WI 9/12-9/15
This year's trip planned by Paul & Londa Habecker was to Church Hill Inn in Sister Bay, Door County Wisconsin for a fun filled 3 nights and 4 days. Those also going along were route planner Bill & Erika Lapham, long haulers from NC Jim & Shelly Noelle, along with Larry & Joy Greenwalt, Bob & Sherry Wilbert, Wylie & Rita Etscheid, Charlie & Eileen Sherman, Mel & Norma Minion, Mark & Donna Schlichter, Tom & Nancy Piercy, John & Marg Herder, and Ray & Sherry Chester for a total of 24 members on the trip. The trip started on Tuesday at the Circle K on 151 street and headed to the toll road and then on the Skyway into Chicago and Milwaukee and out to the Door County peninsula. The trip up took around 8 hours of seat time and a couple for lunch and three other stops along the way. Gaining an hour helped as we easily made our dinner reservation after walking the 1/2 mile down the 11% grade (uphill afterwards was tougher). After a great breakfast at the Inn, Wednesday was a full one with a trolley ride to four local winerys to taste their wares and a great lunch during the tour. If you see a theme, it was that the group didn't starve. While on the tour the second winery greeted us with a polished Corvette sitting there, it's owner Mike was our host at the winery tasting and was expecting to see a bunch of Corvettes in the lot and was disappointed. The group then invited him to join us on our none planned Thursday where he became a great tour guide of the area. Wednesday evening had a 2 hour boat tour around the bay and then dinner at the bowling alley restaurant, for a surprisingly great meal. Remember the not starving mandate. Thursday, again after a great breakfast, most everyone went along with Mike who promptly led us to a beautiful Light House at Cana Island then to lunch in Baileys Harbor. After lunch Wylie had made Mike an honorary member of Corvette Indy for going out of his way to become our tour guide for the day. The group then was on to Cave Point for wonderful views of the escarpment walls along Lake Michigan and finally to see a 1000 foot hand laid stone wall that was done in 3 years by a friend of Mike's. Once a gas stop had been made the group split up as they had to get back to rest up for their evening meal. The evening meal was a special Wisconsin tradition of a fish boil an area treat. It was real interesting to watch the boiling process be done. After a slow trip back to the Inn everyone got ready to head towards home the next morning with most of those heading straight home following Wylie for the trip around Chicago. Thanks to Paul for all of his hard work planning the trip and all of the special events he had lined up for the group to enjoy. Another great Corvette Indy Trip!!!
