New Harmony Pre-run 06/27
On a beautiful day the three couples (John & Marg, Steve & Mary, Bill & Erika) that are planning the Fall New Harmony trip met and headed south to their initial starting point of Gray Brothers. With Mary's vast knowledge of Indiana, their intent was to check out the potential route and get some driving times established for each of the legs. From Grays they headed to the Yoho General Store in Solsberry taking a little over an hour on some good 'Corvette' roads. Since they got there around noon they decided to have lunch and also discuss parking options with the store's manager. The church lot just down the street was checked out and will work for the whole group. From the store we took the quick trip to the Tulip Viaduct Trestle an over 100 year old railroad bridge across the valley that is still in use. On the Fall trip smaller groups will visit it while others get ice cream at the store. From Solsberry the group headed to Shoals and the Martin County Historical Society Museum, which will be a quick rest stop. The next leg took us to the Log Inn our dinner stop on the Fall trip, again using 'Corvette' roads to get there. Once there it was discovered that we would need to leave earlier from the Indianapolis area earlier than planned so a new starting point will be found for the Fall trip. The group did not eat dinner there as the lunches have been rather large and they were not open yet, so on the New Harmony they headed. Once there and checked in the group headed to a local restaurant and strolled around the beautiful town along the banks of the White river. There is a lot of history in this early Indiana town that was established over 200 years ago with a lot of period buildings to be looked at. The day's drive was over 200 miles from the Indy area, so be sure to start out with a full take, but be assured there gas stations at our destination.
