Gold Autocross - Day 3 - 06/25
With two days under their belt the Corvette Indy crew had the track and timing ready to go well before the 9 am start time. The sun came up bright with 90's predicted but not as much humidity in store. To celebrate the last day our 'donuts man' Bob Young brought 3 boxes to feed the early crew, with the first two quickly consumed. Once fed the group settled down for the start of runs, with many of the first Corvettes out being driven by Bloomington Gold attendees. The first sponsor drivers out were mentioning that the track was a dirty and therefore slicker than the previous day, but it may have just been that they were trying harder to get in to the 19's. Unfortunately one driver tried a bit too hard and took out a timing light. It fortunately was not damaged other than having a cable end pulled out and the holder cracked. With gray tape fixing the holder and a quick cable replacement we were back up and running in 10 minutes. The lights were also moved back, but were never again put in jeopardy. This year near the autocross course a chassis dyno was available to participants to have their horsepower checked out. On Friday Brent had his C5 Z06 run with good results, but found that his clutch was slipping for full runs. On Saturday Bill & Jim were watching a supercharged C6 take runs that topped out at 500 hp at the wheels. After talking to the owners from Peoria IL, they suggested that the owners also try doing the autocross which he did. When Danny arrived he first swapped out tires and then through out the day continued having 19 second runs. His fastest run of the day at 19.13 was with member Gary Milton along for the ride. Also Bill Lapham was one of the fortunate ones to get a ride from Danny, with Butch interviewing Danny and Bill afterwards (check out the video below the pictures). In the afternoon the couple with the Lamborghini from Thursday returned along with a Z06 that they own, they were visiting from Atlanta GA. He took several laps in each, but still was no match for Danny and many of the other Corvette drivers as he was running 20's in the Lambo. The day continued with no major issues and 390 runs even with the hour earlier closing time. The remaining club members then quickly picked up all of the cones and equipment so that they could also enjoy the Gold Tour which ended the festivities at 5. They made it to the Corvette Indy Club parking location and joined in with the rest of the club members that enjoyed the shorter in distance but still lengthy in time tour to and through Eagle Creek Park and back nearly to IMS.
