The Grill 09/15
Bob and Carol P held their first ever Retirees and Hookey Player Drive N Dine on Tuesday September 9. Even though this was their first try they fully hit the ball out of the park and set the bar high for future drive n dines. They had everyone meet at their house where ice tea and cookies were served, then to make sure no one got lost they handed out a page of route instructions along with points of interest and 4 pages of maps with the 24 points of interest marked! Then to make sure no one was hungry or thirsty on the drive they handed out a bag that contained the instructions along with water and M&M's to everyone's enjoyment. Before leaving we had a quick visit from Paul & Londa H, who live around the corner from Bob & Carol. Unfortunately they could not make the drive. Those able to join in with the hosts were Jim & Shelley N, Bill & Erika L, Wylie & Rita E, John & Judy G, Susie H & Terry S, and a true hookey player Richard M. for a total of 7 Corvettes hitting the streets near Geist. The route to the destination was varied with old steam engines and the Pendleton correction facilities as some of the points of interest seen around Pendleton. We also drove along Fall Creek Golf Club, but did not see Jim S swinging away. Over all it was a leisurely drive for over an hour before arriving at The Grill just off of Fall Creek south of 79th street. Upon arriving Carol jumped out and removed the cones that Bob had setup to save spots in a row where the 7 Vettes pulled up. Once inside the group was treated to great meals, with more than Jim saying that it was the 'best they ever had'. The portions were large, and they even had a 6oz bacon wrapped fillet steak special for $9.99. The group split on ordering the special with many others getting the port tenderloin and other sandwiches. Everyone got their fill with several take home boxes too. This was a great drive on new roads for many of those that went along for the afternoon fun.
