Auburn Auction
On Friday August 30 a group of 10 Corvettes met at the Kroger on IN 32 and then headed North to Auburn IN and the Auctions America Labor Day Event. Those able to make the day were hosts Wylie & Rita E, Greg & Donna B, Al & Terri F, Bill & Erika L, Jim & Shelley N, Bob & Barb Y, Bob H & Bonnie H, Jack H, Jim S, Rick M and a couple of his friends rounded out the group. Heading out on Cary Road, a somewhat indirect route was picked, but with Rita driving and Wylie handling the directions the group headed north rather quickly. A newly chip & sealed road caused a change in the route, but with plenty of choices it did not affect the drive. A stop for a break did take a bit longer as there was only one restroom for everyone to use. Once back underway we took a few more state roads before finally heading to I69 and a speedy arrival to near the auction grounds. A quick stop at the rest area before arriving was a good move as much better than the porta potties on the auction grounds! Our parking situation was a bit unclear, but we did get to wave at everyone as we did a turn around move (much like IMS this year). We finally got parked on the grass rather near the entrance and were even given a ride by the circulating gold carts.
Once inside, Wylie and Rita got their bidder information and started looking for the cars that they thought they might be interested in. Some were not what they wanted and they ended not really bidding on anything this year. He is interested in a C4 Pace car that looked nice, but did not sell. We also found a LeMans Blue C3 in the lot, but after a through going over, including Greg on the ground looking at the frame, and also finding that the air conditioning did not work, Wylie and Rita decided to pass on that one to. All of the group had a great time looking at the cars and even having some 'fair food' from the booths outside the auction. The day was rather warm, and most everyone was ready to leave by 4 and start heading south. A small group stopped in Fort Wayne at Tavern at Coventry for an early dinner and discussion of the auction. Everyone had a great time and will be waiting to see if Wylie can make a deal on the pace car later in the week, assuming that it doesn't sell at the auction. Good luck Wylie and thanks for a great Retirees & Hookey Player event.
