2014 Fall Colors Drive to the Overlook
If it’s October, it’s time for the Overlook! On Sunday, October 26, Susie H. and Terry S. led a group of
10 beautiful Corvettes through the back roads of southern Indiana to the
Overlook Restaurant in Leavenworth, along the Ohio River.
Members along for the ride were Jim and Bonnie S., Bob and Barb Y. and friends Candace and Joseph W., Jim and Pam K., Jack H. and friend Jack T., Pat and Carol H., Alan and Judy C., Stephen H. and Mary M., and Kevin and Carlene H. It was great to have Kevin and Carlene, members of the Classical Glass corvette club, along with us. Also along for the ride was a Club member wanna-be, “Reno” H., who rode shotgun with Susie and Terry. Reno was denied membership, however, when it was learned he couldn’t come up with the dues, so we named him the Overlook Mascot instead!
We started bright and early and under perfect fall weather with a meet-up in Greenwood and then headed down I65. Our back roads route started on SR58 at Ogilville, but a few construction surprises along the way made for a challenging drive. We detoured onto SR50 on our way to Bedford. Susie had great plans to order a fall favorite of hers, persimmon pudding at a restaurant located at our rest break. But that caused a detour also when she found out the restaurant closed over a year ago!
The ride along curving roads and fall color vistas was spectacular. After a terrific lunch at the Overlook Restaurant with beautiful views of the river below us, we headed to French Lick for an ice cream break at the West Baden Springs hotel. More construction detours during the afternoon drive caught us by surprise, including a VERY slow metal car bringing us to a typical Sunday drive pace of 25 mph!
Thanks to Susie and Terry for leading us on this great fall adventure! Also thanks to Bonnie for the write up and Jim for the great pictures.
