​New Harmony Trip 10/5-10/6

This year's weekend trip planned by Mary McConnell along with Steve Head, John & Marg Herder, and Bill & Erika Lapham headed to the far Southwest corner of Indiana to the beautiful town of New Harmony. As with the past few years Mary's knowledge of the state and especially it's scenic roads was again put to good use. The group of 25 Corvettes and a couple of metal cars first met at Grey Brothers in Mooresville and were split into 3 travelling groups. The first stop was the Yoho General Store in Solsberry, with the route getting there including IN-43, a true Corvette road as trucks are warned not to use it going to Bloomington. The store is owned by the Cook family, also owners Cedar Farm our 2016 trip. The store is just 6 miles from the Tulip Trestle which is the third longest steel railroad trestle in the world, a true wonder. While in Solsberry most everyone had lunch at the general store and hung out while each of the three groups headed out to see the trestle. From there the group headed Southwest using both 2 lane and I-69 to head to Washington IN and the Walmart for a rest break. Another hour drive on beautiful two lane roads took the group the Log Inn in Haubstadt for a huge family style meal. The group got there a little earlier than expected, with the hour gained going into Central time, as all three groups had extremely good luck all day with keeping everyone together with no stops to regroup. So everyone had fun enjoying the early fall weather. Once done eating and paying (another story) the group headed off to New Harmony Inn another 30 minute drive that got everyone there just at dark. The parking was not as organized as it was supposed to be as there was also a wedding being held, but everyone soon found a spot for the evening. The next morning there was a breakfast buffet in the Inn's renown Red Geranium restaurant, where a number of members were surprised to have Jim & Shelley Noelle drop in as they had been to a wedding in Evansville the day before. Once done eating everyone was on their own for the rest of the day. Mary had made several suggestions of things to do in nearby Vincennes which some did while others checked out New Harmony and it's old charm. The rest headed back to the Indy area after the fun weekend.
