Autocross Driving School
On Saturday, August 3, Corvette Indy, in conjunction with the Indiana Region. held a Autocross Driving School at Lincoln College of Technology in Indianapolis. A classroom was held in the morning and taught by the Region's former RCD and current RE Mike Godfrey. This class was over two hours of driving theory and general car preparation information before going to an autocross. The class of over 35 was attended by mostly novice drivers, but there were a few seasoned ones there also. One of the attendees was a third generation of Corvette Indy drivers, whose grandparents had been members of the 1995 NCCC National Club Championships. After the classroom 20 attendees took advantage the offered driving exercises which were conducted by the seasoned drivers. Once the driving exercises were finished and a lunch break taken the group got a chance to try the full autocross course set up for Sunday. There were no times taken, but each person got three runs, with an instructor if they wanted one. This worked out very well with the whole day getting over by 4:30. Those members taking the class and driving were Jim & Bonnie S, Frank & Cathy C, Bob & Barb Y, Jack H, Greg T, Wylie & Rita E, with Bill & Erika L, Terry S, Jim B, and Charles B attended just the class. Registration was done by Pat H & Erika L, while course setup during the classroom session was handled by members Jim W, Butch D, Drew D, Mike G, with Barry R taking care of bringing Terry's trailer and the clubs equipment to the Lincoln College parking lot. They were also assisted by members of other region clubs. We also want to thank Bill of Lincoln College for his assistance with getting everything handled so professionally.
