Allen's Stainless Exhaust 10/07
On a beautiful warm October day members Kevin & Beth McDougall held their first Retirees N Hookey Drive N Dines to the interesting destination of Allen's Stainless Exhaust in Logansport. No the group did not eat at Allen's but got to see many C1-C3's in the process of being restored. Owned by Mike Allen and his family he has been in the Corvette restoration business for over 35 years. We were also able to see some of son Tony's newest endeavor as he has been taking Corvette parts and then turning them into furniture, lamps, clocks, and other items. The exhaust side of the business is fairly large with Allen's shop supplying all of the major Corvette vendors with his unique chambered exhaust which are exact duplicates for original side pipes or the unique under body chambered exhaust, which have that true side pipe bark sound! We were also shown much of the equipment by the fellow that helped design the chambered designs many years ago and still assists in the shop. Those able to go along with the first time hosts were Wylie & Rita Etscheid, Jim & Shelley Noelle, Bill & Erika Lapham, Al Forey, Jack Houtman, John Vess, Mike Tann, and Rich Peters. The route was not direct from the 96th street starting point as Bill had helped Kevin create a varied path to Logansport. With Bill leading the group went up 31, across 38, and then sidetrack on 38 to Mulberry to miss construction on 421 before Rossville. Then near Delphi they took the new 25 into Logansport and the destination. After spending some time at the shop the group walked across the street to the West Side Diner for a great meal that filled everyone before returning to the shop and then back to the Indy area.
