NCM Museum & More
On Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning we headed to the National Corvette Museum. Tuesday we got a sneak peak at the sinkhole and on Wednesday the Club members got a private tour of the museum with a discussion of the sinkhole and general history of the museum. The museum has had an 50% increase in attendees since the sinkhole incident. The group was glad that we got to see the rescued cars in their unrestored current condition. We also met and took pictures of several couples getting museum delivered cars. The incorrigible Bob H even got his picture taken with one of the ladies. With seeing the new owners smiling faces, several members vowed to have museum delivery if they order a new one so they too can join in the fun!
After our morning tour we headed to the Corvette Plant for a tour of it, unfortunately NO cameras, cell phones, or secret recording devises are allowed in the plant. So it did happen, but we have no pictures of the tour. While on the plant tour, Jim & Shelley were sure that they saw parts being prepared for their C7 that is being built during the week of May 12. The tour is really great, and we are glad that we got to do it now instead of the anniversary trip, so others can use the 15 tickets that Wylie has for then.
With the Corvette plant tour over we headed back to the museum for lunch and a final tour of the store. Bob H & Jim A headed back to Indy via I65, while the rest made a quick trip to Al's across from the museum and then headed out of Bowling Green intending to go downtown and pick up KY185. Instead Wylie took 31W North which then led us to take Mt Olivet Road and a few others over to 185, it wasn't planned but a very scenic few miles, pretty much confirming if the road is paved in Kentucky they are good shape. Once underway North we settled in for a trip up to the Kentucky - Indiana border, where we found a DQ for an afternoon treat and break. What is a Corvette Indy drive without a DQ visit? Unfortunately during that part of the trip Wylie's C7 had picked up a 'seat squeak" while on the curvy Corvette happy roads, hopefully it will be cured with more driving trips. Once across the Ohio river bridge we continued up IN135 and did the reverse of our trip down by getting to I65 and up to Indy. During part of the trip home Jim N got to ride with Bob Y, getting to experience what his new C7 will feel like from the passenger seat. Our two day trip was a little over 600 fun filled miles and all are awaiting our upcoming August trip back.
Thanks to Bill, Wylie, & Jim N for the pictures on this page.
