Mackinaw Trip - Sunday 08/23
Sunday dawned with clear skies and everyone packing up to leave Mackinaw City. There were no planned group activities and everyone was free to head on to new destinations. Some headed to the Upper Peninsula, others to the West side of the state, and some directly back to the Indianapolis area. A small group, Wylie & Rita, Jim & Shelley, and Bill & Erika, had planned to go to Frankenmuth to visit Bronner's for Christmas decorations and Zehnder's for their chicken dinner. Before this group headed south they made a trek across the bridge and found a great observation spot for pictures and wre able to say they had been in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The short trip north was well worth the $4 toll charged in each direction. Once the picture taking was done the group headed south to their next destination. As they pulled in to Brenner's parking lot they spot John & Marg who were also just arriving. They had already had lunch and were about to go in too. Heading into the Christmas store and after spending an hour there the ladies in the group were able to purchase many keepsakes from the trip. They then headed to Zehnder's and found that there was an Art Show in the park next to the restaurant and EVEY parking spot they had was full. At this point they decided to head towards home and found a Big Boy, which Jim had been talking about all trip, to have lunch at. As they were leaving it just started to sprinkle and then turned into a hard storm for a number of miles until the front pushed through. While headed south on I69 and just across the Indiana border Jim got a call from Paul, who had spotted the mini caravan gong by from a store he was at. After multiple break stops the group made it back to their homes before 9, for a long but great day of travel.
