Vettes for Vets in Lafayette 05/05
Corvette Indy was one of many Corvette clubs participating in the seventh annual Vettes for Vets benefit event at the Indiana Veterans’ Home on May 5. The event is organized by Star City Corvettes and the Lafayette Corvette Club. A huge Thank You goes to the two clubs for hosting this worthwhile event. Twenty-five Corvettes and about forty Corvette Indy members and guests participated in the event. The weather was perfect. Steve Shepard was this year’s organizer. We gathered at the former Marsh store parking lot at 106th and Michigan Road. Shep led us north on Indiana 421 to IN 29, then West on IN 26 through Rossville. He pointed out Treece’s Catfish and Steaks where most would eat following the event. Then it was on to the Tippecanoe County Amphitheater in West Lafayette.
About 140 Corvettes gathered at the Tippecanoe County Amphitheater prior to the caravan up to the veterans home. Once at the veterans home it was a wonderful opportunity for folks to contribute money and needed personal items to help make the veterans lives a bit more enjoyable. Over fourteen laundry carts were filled with miscellaneous snacks, games, and personal items donated by clubs, individuals, and sponsors. Corvette Indy donated $1,900 to the home in behalf of the club and individual member’s donations. The club received a plaque for the largest club participation. Following the event, most members headed back to Rossville for dinner at Treece’s Catfish and Steaks.
