Al's Spring '17 Projects
Al Forey performed two small projects recently on his 2001 convertible this spring:
Project 1
Purchased and installed a compartment divider/"quiet ride" from Eckler's #25-257052-10 $173.98 out the door. The product is 2 1/2" thick foam covered with black carpet all around and sports a C5 insignia.
This product is compatible with the C5 convertible only.
My exhaust is pretty loud and this product seems to help some with noise in the trunk.
The product merely presses in place and can be installed or removed at will.
When in place, it does separate the trunk and the top storage well portion (the C6 has a safety curtain in this place).
Project 2
The deck lid over the top storage would not stay up when storing the top by the end of last season. Yes, weakening struts. One strut on each side located behind a metal support over the rear wheel housing in the trunk.
The deck lid must be in the full up position to change these struts for the struts to be in an unstressed position (high pressure gas inside). There is a small clip at each end of the struts that must be loosened with a small screwdriver to allow removal or installation. It was a real bear getting in position to get the clips loose. First I wedged myself in the trunk to perform the task (See Pacetti photo). Finally Dick Pacetti crawled into the trunk to complete the work I began. See photos of strut and strut with small screwdriver inserted. Zip Corvette #M-3485 x 2 $43.86 out the door.
Glad to see that Al had help from Dick, otherwise he still might be in the trunk.
