Diana's Putnam Report
Adventure at Putnam Park Track
As you may know, Bob Y. made it possible for several interested Corvette Indy members to attend a 10/10’s on April 5 and 6 at Putnam Park. John and Diana A. were two of those who participated. Greg T., Frank and Cathy C. attended the all day sessions. Frank and Cathy attended both days. Richard H. had the opportunity to go out at lunch time at 50 mph. We had the opportunity to attend mandatory classes for safety awareness and a second class in the afternoon for more information on driving on the track. John and Diana A. were not primarily interested in racing but just learning about their 2009 Coupe and how it handled and how to handle it. John took the first two driving sessions. Because there were so many in the intermediate and advanced sessions, those two sessions were allowed on the track during the novice session. It was just a bit intimidating. We later learned that if the intermediate and advanced drivers are on the novice track, they are to follow the novice rules, the main one being “no passing.” It seems in the first session, drivers were not adhering to this rule and Craig, John and Cathy were a bit rattled, if not a bit angry about being tail gaited and passed whether they used the “point bye” instructions or not. John’s instructor, Lee, on the last session moved the rearview mirror so John could not see it. We had to trust the instructor to make sure we did not get run down or off the track. As a matter of fact, none of the novice drivers went off the track during their sessions. I heard that was a “first.” There was applause. Bob and Barbara Y. were there for us all the way, hitting knuckles as we went out, explaining the track, taking pictures, making sure we were warm enough. There were several Corvette Indy members who just came out to watch. Thank you Frank and Elaine for helping to keep John warm on Saturday. Your extra sweatshirt was a big help. Everyone had a wonderful time. It was a beautiful day, quite cool in the morning though. John A. and Cathy C. on the Track.
