A Summer Place Visit 10/14
With advanced planning John & Barb Burkhardt were able to get the club invited to A Summer Place which is on IN 19 north of Tipton for an afternoon of nostalgia in the retro 'village'. The destination is by invitation only and can only handle around 48 in the diner, so the club's attendance was on a first come basis. On the day which was beautiful 22 Corvettes and 43 members were able to leave from the starting spot of Meijer in Carmel. Those going along with hosts John & Barb were Jim & Judi Alvis, Harry & Tillie Barthalow, Greg & Donna Bowron, Ray & Sherry Chester, Al & Terri Forey, Paul & Londa Habecker, Susie Hale & Terry Sitzer, Michael & Judy Labanz, Bill & Erika Lapham, Bud & Eileen Mitcheltree, Bob & Alice Moore, Dick & Bonnie Pacetti, Tom & Nancy Piercy, Bill & Cheryl Reynolds, Mark & Donna Schlichter, Steve & Sheila Shepard, Joe & Marilyn Travis, John & Ruth Vess, Phil & Anita Vickery, and Linda White leaving in two groups with John & Diana Albright driving directly there from Kokomo. Once the group arrived they became immersed in the village that many remembered from the 1950's of their childhood. Smiles were many and a huge number of pictures were taken. Lunch was soon served in the authentic diner with a meal of burger, fries, and a banana split being served. Among those doing the serving was a lady that works with Pam Kellam during the week, who let us know that Pam was hard at work getting ready for the Kellam's cookout later in the day. During lunch "Happy Birthday" was sung to birthday boys Phil, who was 89 years old, and Joe. The lunch was great, more pictures were taken and then the theater opened up for the showing of 'American Graffiti' the 1973 movie that best portrays an night in the summer of the '50's. Most had seen it a number of times before, but some in the group had not, in any case all enjoyed it and the surroundings. More pictures were taken and then the group dispersed for the trip home with many then getting ready for the second big event of the day at the Kellam's.
