Red Bull Air Race at IMS 10/01
Jim Shaver took his family and sent the following report and pictures:
Bonnie and I took our our daughter, her husband and the grand kids to IMS today for Red Bull Air Races practice and qualifications. The planes and pilots are pretty amazing. There are too many penalties to list so the flight through the course must be perfect. The one that seems most challenging to me is the requirement that the plane be within 10 degrees of horizontal at the moment it passes through a gate. That is after being vertical moments before.

A Long Distance Colt's Game Paul and Londa are enjoying the trip and surroundings. Their comments so far are: This Country must be Corvette free, must have seen 50 thousand cars and the closest I have seen to a Corvette is a Ford with the steering wheel on the wrong side. However, if you want to know the exact time just send me a text as we know the exact time of day thanks to Big Ben. Police drive BMW's. |
Bob Phillips - Honor Flight - 09/03
From Member Bob Phililips about his experience: I'm sending this e-mail along with some photos of my Honor Flight to Washington D.C. on Sept 3rd. There were two Honor Flights, I was on the second. We left Indy at about 8:15AM and arrived in D.C. about 9:30AM. There were 187 Veterans on both flights along with a Guardian for each Veteran. Our first stop was at Arlington Cemetery and the grave site of Audi Murphy. He was the highest decorated soldier in WW2, including The Medal of Honor. We than were at The Changing of The Guard at The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier in Arlington. We then visited the WW2 Memorial and met Bob Dole. He was instrumental in getting the Memorial passed by Congress. He visits the entrance to the Memorial a few times each week to thank the WW2 veterans for their service to our Country. He was severely wounded in Italy during WW2 and lost the use of his right arm. Our next stop was The Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Wall and the Korean Memorial which was awe inspiring for the Veterans of The Korean War. We arrived home at 9:00 PM and were welcomed home by a large crowd at the The Plainfield HS Gym. This was a Honor for me to be included in this Honor Flight and is something I'll always remember.
Note to Bob, Corvette Indy Thanks YOU for your service

Prerun to Cedar Farm 07/02
On Tuesday Bill & Erika headed south to check out the route to Cedar Farm as they had not been there before and are leading Group 2. It was a beautiful but HOT drive down. The route instructions were very good with little road construction affecting the trip, most of which will not be active over the weekend. On their trip back they drove by Susie's Outlook restaurant and towards French Lick and finally back to Carmel for a nearly 390 mile and great 8 hours of driving in 'Itz Blue' which was very dirty when they got back home from the drive & Monday's meeting!

Burkhart's Dakota Trip - End of May
A few pictures from the trip Barb and I took to the Dakota’s at the end of May. Pictures from the Badlands in South Dakota and Mount Rushmore. About 3,200 miles. Stayed at a B&B near Medora (Theodore Roosevelt Nat’l Park) North Dakota. 5 miles of gravel. This was the parking lot but the road was just like this.
Editor' Note: I talked John in to the 4th picture as his comments before getting it were "I won’t show you the pictures after several miles of gravel roads. Would probably get banned from the club." Thank John for sharing. It does look like he may need a power wash prior to the Club's car show in August though.

A Trip to Friendly's in Greensburg 06/02
On Thursday June 2 Tom & Nancy Piercy along with Bill & Erika Lapham took a reconnoitering trip to Greensburg Indiana to check out the Friendly Restaurant for a future Drive N Dine. Tom & Nancy had very good reports of the food there and all four can now attest to the breaded tenderloin as being worth the drive. Their route took them past Hamilton Town Center, which will be the starting point of the drive and down several state roads getting there with a different route on the way back for some variety on the trip. Keep an eye on emails for a date in a few weeks. Be sure to check out the tree on the top of the court house when you go.

Bill Reynolds visits Discount Tire 03/16
Put new Goodyear Eagles on the back of the Corvette after 16 years (this means that they were the original ones on his 2000 C5 with 38,000 miles on them!). Discount tire and Levi took very good care of me, thank you Levi. I had new tires put on the front two years ago so only needed the back at this time. Keeping the Goodyear's on for that all original award winning look (which his large number of car show trophies attest too!).

Baseball in Glendale, AZ Gary & Marian met up with Wylie at the LA Dodger vs. Chicago White Sox game in Glendale AZ on March 15th. Wylie's White Sox won in walk-off fashion 8 to 6 in the bottom of the 9th. Exciting game. It was great seeing a fellow club member in Arizona on vacation. Thanks to Gary for the report & picture proving they were there! |
