C7 Day at Grand Prix of Indianapolis
Chevrolet again sponsored a C7 Stingray Day at the Grand Prix of Indianapolis with our great sponsor Penske Chevrolet able to get us 7 invitations. The event started at the Penske dealership where the assembled group got a motorcycle escort to the track. Our Penske liaison Bob Y was there to see the group off and Jim A was there to document the group assembling and driving out of the lot. Once at the track Greg and Wylie took more pictures of the day's events. Jim S, who was a flagman for the races was able to get pictures of all of the C7's as they paraded by his corner. Go to C7 Parade lap
Greg did the following writeup of the day expressing the club's thanks.
A GREAT DAY AT THE TRACK!
Some very lucky Corvette Indy members met at Penske Chevrolet for a special C7 only outing to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Shortly after 12 noon the group consisting of Wylie & Rita E, Bob & Sherry W Doug & Gail B, Paul & Londa H, Jim & Pam K, Bob A a Penske customer (and likely soon to be new club member), club friends John M & Ben D and Greg & Donna B (in a Penske C7 so graciously provided for the outing by Brett Rozzi) left Penske under a two motorcycle Police escort arranged by Greg with club friend, Robert Smith, of the Sheriff's Department.
The drive to the track was an adrenalin pumping fun event that brought smiles to everyone's face and made short work of getting there! The Police dropped the group off after an exhilarating cruise right at the IMS Credential Gate 9A and the folks at the track were organized and ready for action. A quick restroom stop and they were ushered off to the track to queue for Parade Lap around the race course. There they met up with Cody Robbins who had caught a ride with a friend that had snatched a pass for the event from another dealer.
Just after the last preliminary race ended and just before the Grand Prix began the C7s were ushered onto the Race Course behind the C7 Pace Car. They maneuvered around the various turns on the course while keeping a sharp eye out for the track maintenance vehicles that were still in progress of their last minute race preparations. Driving the 2.4 mile race course single file was just plain neat and doing so single file with about 43 other C7s and in front of the assembled race crowd made it "even much more better"!
After the lap the group was VIP ushered over to display parking near the Pagoda and then took a short walk to the Chevrolet Suite where they watched the race in cool luxury and enjoyed the buffet style luncheon feast that Chevrolet had catered in.
The weather which had looked iffy all week, cooperated. The rains held off until the Parade Lap was complete and then a brief shower let loose a few steps after the group had reached the covered safety of the Gasoline Alley walkway. The rains then stopped and stayed away for the race and the rest of a very enjoyable outing! You can't hope for better than that!
A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO BRETT ROZZI & PENSKE CHEVROLET AND OUR FRIEND MIKE QUINN AT CHEVROLET FOR SPONSORING THIS EVENT AND ENABLING EVERYONE AT CORVETTE INDY THAT WANTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS EVENT THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO! IT WAS ANOTHER VERY FUN AND UNIQUE CLUB OUTING TO BE REMEMBERED AND ENJOYED!
