Door County - Wednesday 9/13
The trolley pulled up right after everyone had finished breakfast to head off to Orchard Country Winery, the first winery tasting of the day. The selections were very good and purchases were made before getting back on the much appreciated trolley and heading to our second winery. Arriving at Harbor Ridge Winery there was a surprise of a bright Red Corvette next to the building. It turned out to be owned by Mike who oversaw our wine tasting session. He was bummed that the group didn't drive their Vettes, but understood. While doing the tasting and talking Corvettes, phone numbers were exchanged to make plans later as he had Thursday off and he was asked to join the group. After the second winery the group headed to a much needed lunch in a very nice restaurant. With everyone filled up the trolley headed off to the third winery - Door Peninsula Winery which also had a distillery attached. Of course more wine was tasted and a few purchases made with everyone enjoying the 'Disney World' of wineries in Door County. The fourth winery was Simon Creek Vineyard and Winery a much more rustic setting. Most everyone was tasted out by then, but they all enjoyed the beautiful and tranquil setting. After the final trolley ride back to the B&B everyone had the rest of the afternoon off as most of the couples were heading to the Sunset Cruise to cap off the day. Two of couples had decided to skip the cruise and were tasked with finding a restaurant for the group to meet at after the cruise. This was because the restaurant that Paul had hope to use had all of their staff taking the same cruise the group was on and was closed! Wylie was one of the ones staying on land, so he took pictures of the boat casting off. The cruise was great as everyone was able to see the beautiful shoreline at sunset and only getting a bit cool as the sun went down. Once inside the lower deck the captain had a lot of 'help' on the return to the harbor. The dinner location became the local bowling alley, which had a surprisingly good full service resultant attached. Everyone had their fill and the plans were made for the morning to meet up with our newly found guide Mike. Not mentioned before was the fact that it was Ray's birthday on Wednesday and all members can be assured that he celebrated it responsibly with the group singing Happy Birthday to him many times over during the whole day.
