Fall Day at Putnam Park 11/07
With the beautiful fall weather holding out Bob Young decided to make use of his "The Club at Putnam Park" membership and head to the track on Saturday morning to add to his overall collection of laps. He had asked Bill to come out too for the day to take some ride along track time. Bill had decided to stop by the morning's Drive N Dunk and Bob said to invite anyone else that was interested too. Tammy was there meeting some new members and Butch was there enjoying the morning get together. Once he found out about the opportunity he jumped at the chance, took Tammy home and headed to Putnam Park in time to see Bob & Bill getting their first laps in. Also using the track during the day were an IMSA prepared Porsche GT3 run by Kelly Moss Motor Sports that had traveled down from Madison WI, a Z06 with an automatic transmission, and a stock running gear C6 Grand Sport with an aero kit. In both of their rides, both Bill & Butch got shown the nuances of the track, where corners were crowned or off camber and the best lines through them. Butch was especially interested as he had run on the track numerous times during the Indiana Region NCCC autocross events. The guys also talked to the Z06 owner, Gregg, who expressed interest in joining Corvette Indy once he found a bit more out about us. The day was beautiful, and the lessons on how to go around the track and even how to do the walk around and prep things prior to starting a session. Bob has a tremendous amount of knowledge about the Putnam Park track as he has amassed over 20 thousand miles (not a typo) on it in his over 20 years of driving there. He has also been an instructor there, at the new NCM road course, and other mid west tracks. He has offered to have members do a ride along at any time he is heading out to the track, which is often. It was a fun day for all on one of the few remaining warm days of Fall.
