2015 Fishers Freedom Parade
The first parade of the 2015 season was on June 28 with 28 Corvettes and and nearly double that number of members with their cars. As in past years we initially met at the Fishers Target on 116 st. There we started the arranging everyone into A - B - C groups, this is so we could get everyone going to their correct destination after the parade ended. The A group was headed to Mel & Norma's house for a garden tour and first viewing of Mel's restored '36 Ford, which was led by Bill & Erika. Group B led by Greg & Donna was headed to Granite City for dinner afterwards. Finally group C was to not follow anyone as they were heading home after the parade. When the line up was sorted out and waivers were signed we headed to the actual stating spot, which this year was in a different location. Fortunately Greg had gone over on Sunday morning and scoped it out. Once at our first staging location we were 'attacked' by a bubble machine which left nice soapy spots on the Corvettes in the front of the line. This prompted Greg to talk to the organizer and get our group ahead of the uncooperative bubble machine driver in the parade line up. As usual we were then moved again near the parade start time, with members again getting their chairs out. Greg even started walking back to review the assembled group. This year's second wait was a lot shorter, with the parade starting we had Greg 'trotting' from the back to the front as he was in the lead Corvette! Once we got underway we then settled in to the usual 4 mph max speed and lots of stopping. The 2 plus mile route was evenly split in to 35 minutes of movement and 35 minutes of stopped time. Rest assured that several members have very tired left legs at the end. As always it is a fun parade for everyone with the multiple YOUNG families lining the whole route. Lots of cheering for racing engines and the colorful Corvettes on Parade! As the it ended Greg made an emergency Merlin potty stop while others went by. He caught back up and then everyone headed to Lantern road where group A heading North and B heading south and the group C Corvettes picking their appropriate direction. With wonderful weather it was a fun afternoon with lots of 'radio chatter' about what was seen on the route. What a great warm up for the annually attended Carmel 4th of July parade on the next weekend.
