Chevy IMS Pole Day 05/21

Again our great sponsor Penske Chevrolet and Mike Quinn helped the club get everyone that wanted to attend the 2017 Pole Day pass needed to go to the track that were provided through the Central Indiana Chevrolet Dealers. This year, as the past few, the club's group assembled at Traders Point and the still open Marsh. Where, even with rain forecast early, 36 Corvettes met our escort which consisted of 3 motorcycles and a lead car. With instructions to get to the track by 8:30 the group left before 8 and arrived just after 8, but were still not the first there. We were lined up though behind the new pace car in two rows to be the first on the track. Still no rain, so everyone got signed in and their wrist bands to be ready for the 10:30 track time. Then the rains came, soft at first then persistent with most everyone heading to their cars. It was a good thing as the on track time was going to be cut out, but through Mike Quinn's negotiation the track lap started early in the wet. It turned out that roughly half of the assembled 300 Corvettes and Camaros got on the track before it stopped raining, and officials immediately closed the track for drying. Be sure to check out the on track pictures, very wet indeed. For the first time this year our clubs Corvettes were escorted past our usual parking spot on Hulman Drive to a lot directly behind the Chevrolet Display. What a great place to park, where everyone dried their as their Corvettes were on full display and talked about by the Chevy announcers. Then a number of the members headed to the Chevy display to sign in for a T-Shirt and check out the Carbon 65 Corvette on display. With our early arrival Mike was able to get the pavilion open and after a brief introduction the food was served to the delight of everyone. As in past years the Pole Day Pass provided by Chevrolet and our Central Indiana Dealers also allowed admittance to the garage area along with seats to watch the afternoon events. This was taken advantage of by many of the members as the afternoon started to clear with sunny skies arriving late. Again all of the Corvette Indy members thank our great sponsor Penske Chevrolet and the Central Indian Chevrolet Dealers for making another great day at IMS a full success.
