2015 Bloomington Gold at IMS
This year's Bloomington Gold was held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time ever. With the new venue came an opportunity for members of Corvette Indy to become very involved with planning and supporting several of this year's events. Starting in February the event's organizers contacted us and even came to several meetings soliciting help. One of the first things that our members helped with was the planning of the Gold Tour route, always the major ending cruise of the event. Check out the link below to it for pictures and write up of the drive. Probably the largest commitment was our involvement with the reestablished Gold Autocross. We used our timing equipment and trailer for the autocross being run by the NCCC for the first time. The Indiana Region had been asked to oversee this at the February NCCC Governors meeting, with Butch then offering our club's extensive support. It was a well run event over the three days when the weather cooperated, again check out the link below for the write up and pictures. As we got closer to the Blooming Gold dates of June 25 - 27 Greg was in nearly daily contact with Lori, our liaison person. With much back and forth the jobs were defined and 50 signed up to work at the different spots that needed volunteer help. During the actual event days many positions were changes around but what ever was asked of club members we got done with the usual Corvette Indy enthusiasm! This included everyone that worked on Thursday and Friday getting soaked by the rain at one point or another. While there, when not working, members enjoyed the many different events including the Ron Fellows ride along at 120 mph in the new Z06 on the road course to the Gold laps around the track (like they haven't done that before). We also had several members purchase the Gold Club Membership and enjoy all of the perks that came with that including being at the front of the Gold Tour. All of our hard work was recognized at the award ceremony as Corvette Indy received a trophy for best club participation. For a first year event, with several 1/2 days of bad Indiana weather everything went well and all of the members who attended had a good time. The pictures below are from several members in no particular day's order. The first one is of Wylie receiving our trophy at the award ceremony on Saturday afternoon.
