Mackinaw Trip - Saturday 08/22
One of the main reason for the Mackinaw Trip was to be in the 26th Annual Corvette Crossroads Auto Show, which is put on by the Chamber of Commerce. With the cars already cleaned up the night before it had been planned to take them over as a group around 8:30. This plan fell apart in the morning as many other of the nearly 250 registered Corvettes started to roll in. A few of the early rising club members headed over and soon had the required 15 spots lined up and saved for the later arrivals. The moving of the cars was no real issue, as everyone could then walk back over to the motel for breakfast. With the show starting at 10, final cleaning was done and then a lot of walking around to look at the competitors. There was two sets of groups, stock and modified with those split up by multiple years. It took some time to find all of the different cars that fit the groups. While the guys were voting most of the wives headed out to the nearby shops to check out Mackinaw City's offerings. The day had started out cool and a little overcast but soon heated up in to the low 80's. Once the ballots were turned in, most either went off to find lunch or ventured back to their rooms for the air conditioning. Final voting was over at 2 and presentations at 3. Corvette Indy had two cars win third place plaques, Wylie & Rita's C7 and Susie's C5. Corvette Indy also got the participation award for having the most club cars 15 there and our leader Paul took that presentation. At the end of the show they had each car drive by and rrecieve their award, which was a good way to see the winners out of the 250 entrants. Once the show was over most everyone headed back to the motel to rest up before heading to dinner as a group for the final evening of the trip.
