Detroit Grand Prix 2013
On the first weekend of June one of our Corvette Indy members, Jim S, headed to the Belle Isle road course in the Detroit area.
The following is his recounting & pictures of the weekend, which sounds like it should become a club adventure in the future.
The Detroit Gran Prix was a great time for lucky Corvette owners. For the price of admission to Corvette Corral, we got breakfast, lunch, track laps, and C7 presentations. Oh yes, there were also some races. Presentations were done by engineers who helped design the C7: Ed Moss and Eric Roselli, Structure/Chassis; Tom Toft, Exterior; Harlan Charles, Marketing; Mark West and Jeremy Kearney, C7 interior. Presentations had to be timed carefully since the Corvette Hospitality Tent was only about 200 feet from a main straightaway and the cars were really loud. 100 cars did two laps at the end of the day on Saturday and 65 before the Indy car race on Sunday. Sunday's parade lap was nicer since on Saturday the only spectators were the corner workers and the cleanup crew. Cars were lead by a Pace Car, but some of us did manage to find speeds up to 90 mph on the straights.
