ND - USC 10/17/15
Greg B and his son Pat headed to South Bend on Saturday, October 17th for the Notre Dame vs Southern Cal football game. It was a beautiful but cool fall day and perfect for football. The night game kickoff temperature was a balmy 39 degrees and dropped to the mid thirties during the game. Almost a perfect way to welcome ND's rival from sunny and warm LA!
The game was electric with a very talented USC team striking quickly to take the lead. It took the Irish one play, a 75 yard touchdown pass to answer and tie it up. USC struck again on their next drive to regain the lead 10 to 7 but again the Irish answered with a long drive to go up 14 to 10. After stopping the Trojans on their next drive the Irish blocked the punt, scooped it up and carried it in. Only 10 minutes into the game and it was 21 to 10. The Irish added a field goal but gave up two quick 2nd quarter TDs to USC and the score was knotted at 24 at halftime. The Trojans played well in the 3rd quarter and took a 31-24 lead but the Irish defense stiffened when it appeared USC might up their lead to 14. In the 4th quarter the Irish showed their mettle and in front of a gleeful home crowd had back to back touchdown drives of 90 and 91 yards to regain the lead. Then ND's defense stepped up to preserve the win by picking off a long Trojan pass which enabled the offense to add a FG. The 17 to zip 4th quarter domination finally put the Trojans on their long plane ride home with equally long faces. The victory bumped the 6-1 Irish back up the rankings into the top ten and kept their hopes of making the national title playoffs alive. Greg and Pat's trip home was a late one and they arrived home tired but happy about 3:30am.
Game highlights of an exciting game that contained lots of big plays from two very talented offenses can be seen using the link below:

ND - Navy 10/10/15
Greg, Donna and their son, Pat, headed to South Bend on Saturday, October 10th, for the Notre Dame vs Navy football game. The weather was outstanding with lots of sunshine and temperatures that topped out about 65 degrees! The game had lots of action with Navy running its vaunted triple option attack and coming back from a 21-7 deficit to seemingly tie the game at 21 for the first half but they left 18 seconds on the clock. That was time enough for ND to maneuver into position for a half ending 52 yard field. The second half saw ND's power and skill take over. Navy played tough to the final gun but in the end the Irish were able to pull away for a 41 to 24 win.
Attending a ND/Navy game is a unique treat to outstanding sportsmanship as there is great respect between the two schools. During WWII the Naval Academy used the ND campus to train Naval officers and while ND contributed greatly to the war effort, the arrangement helped keep ND from closing due to financial difficulties. ND has maintained a special relationship with the Naval Academy and has said they have a game for Navy on the Irish schedule as long as Navy wants to play them. This was the 89th consecutive game since 1927 in the longest uninterrupted series in college football. The game was memorable from the pre-game flyover of 4 Super Hornet F-18 fighter jets, to the teams standing by each other as they sang their respective Alma Mater after the game. The sportsmanship was evident as the entire stadium of 80,200 fell to a reverent quiet while the Naval Academy band played their Alma Mater. Then the Midshipmen removed their caps when the Irish band played the Notre Dame Alma Mater. It has become Donna's favorite game to attend.
Highlights and to the sharp eye video proof we were there as we are visible on the FG's in the center of the end zone just above the colored part of the net...

ND - U Mass 9/26/15
On Saturday, September 26th, Greg and his son Pat drove to South Bend for the U Mass at ND football game. The weather was superb so Greg drove the "Beater" and enjoyed a cool early morning top down drive all the way up. Once there they backed into their normal reserved parking spot, a private garage about a block off campus. The home owner that has become a friend after several years of this arrangement delights in telling everyone it is his Vette and in showing and "selling" the Vette during the game. He says the highest offer he has received is $100,000 and Greg told him to get in cash if its ever offered again!
The game was close for a while as the U Mass coached was quoted as saying the "Irish were sleeping walking through the game but unfortunately we woke them up". The Irish never trailed but after getting a quick 14-0 lead U Mass made it interesting by using some trick plays to climb back to within a 21 to 20 score. The Irish quickly upped the deficit to 35-20 at half time. In the 3rd period after 2 very quick scores the Irish started pulling their skill players to give their 2ND string quarterback some game experience and the back-up players quickly added additional points. The ND defense played a solid 2ND half and a late U Mass score against a defense with very clean jerseys made the final score 62 to 27.
The 6th ranked Irish moved to a 4-0 record so Greg and Pat were able to smile all the way home!

ND - Georgia Tech 9/19/15
Greg and his son Pat made their second outing of the year to South Bend to watch the 2-0 and 8th ranked Irish take on 14th ranked and 2-0 Georgia Tech. Tech came in averaging 67 points per game with the top rushing attack in the nation and were about 3 point favorites to beat the Irish who had already lost 6 starters for the season through injuries and were starting their "3rd string" quarterback in his first ever start. The talented and resilient Irish played an outstanding game and corralled the vaunted triple option running attack of Georgia Tech and held a 30-7 lead going into the final 50 seconds when Tech added two very late scores to make the final score of 30-22 seem far closer than the game really was. The 3-0 Irish, who are the all-time winningest team in college football, moved up to 6th ranked but have a very tough schedule remaining on their quest to get into the play-off and hopefully win yet another national championship.

BRIGHT LIGHTS AT THE DOME!
Greg and his son Pat headed to South Bend on Saturday, September 5th for the season opener against the Texas Longhorns. The 11th ranked Irish have high expectations this year and were slight favorites to open their season with a win. The Longhorns are another tradition rich school and although the Irish lead the all time winning percentage in all of college football they entered the game with the second most wins with 882 and Texas is 3rd with 881 wins. The Irish started fast and never looked back in what was a surprisingly easy 38 to 3 beat down. The Irish offense amassed 527 total yards to 130 for Texas and 30 first downs to only 8 for Texas. The all time record between these 2 leading schools is now 9-2 with 8 of those Irish wins coming against highly ranked Texas teams. ND stadium was rocking under the lights for the night game and the B boys had a great time! The Irish face a formidable schedule this year but optimism runs high!
