Afternoon at RaceCraft1 02/08
RaceCraft1 is a business that among other race event training options operates five race simulators and is run by Kelly Jones. Member Bob Young has known Kelly for a number of years and has used the simulators and was able to set up an afternoon for a group of Corvette Indy members to experience them. Members taking advantage of the special rate for the afternoon were John Vess, Terry Adams,Tom Piercy, Bonnie Shaver, Ray Chester, Bob Ray, Mike Tann, Bill Lapham, Keith Riley, Jimmie Driscoll, Bob Hensley, Jason Baugh, and Linda White. all taking turns on the simulators with Erika Lapham & Jim Shaver (our day's photographer) enjoying the afternoon. Unfortunately host Bob Young didn't make it as he went to the hospital for a heart issue. He was missed and certainly appreciated by all for making the great afternoon of fun. (Note of Friday 2/9 - he is doing well and looking for visitors). Once underway Kelly had the attendees practice on 5 different types of tracks including a Corvette on Laguna Seca road course, a go cart on a road course, Legend car at the Eldora dirt track, an off road truck on a dirt course, and a Formula car on a road course. Fortunately for all the walls are 'soft' and the 'cars' easily repaired after a shunt. After an hour or so of 'practice' with several getting a bit of motion feeling Kelly started to link the units together. For the racing sessions he setup the oval track at Gateway Motorsport Park for the challenge between five members at a time. Three heats were run with multiple 'crashes' behind the leaders. It was all a lot of fun and a number of those attending would be willing to attend another session when it can be setup.
