Westfield Abort 10/26
With the weather still being cooperative and seasonal Bill & Erika held a Retirees & Hookey Player DnD on what turned out to be the nicest day of the fourth week in October. With the nice day and knowing that the driving season end is fast approaching 9 Corvettes and their owners joined in. Those able to go along were John Vess, Jimmie & Donna Driscoll, Linda White, Wylie Etscheid (with Rita meeting at the restaurant), Greg & Donna Bowron, Jack Houtman, Paul & Londa Habecker, Ray & Sherry Chester, and joining in route were Tom & Nancy Piercy. At first it was thought that Sherry was an actual hookey player, but it was soon revealed that she had broken her arm and was off work for around nine weeks, so expect to see her at even more Fall events. The drive went well with the group rolling around Eagle Creek out to West of the airport then north on currently non recently chipped and sealed roads to the first stop of Stuckey's. After the group made a few purchases and Greg dusted Donna's Corvette off the group headed out towards Grand Park where Tom & Nancy were joining them. The route, with a bit of Fall color due to the morning's frost, went by the new Pete Dye Chatham Hill course then drove around the expansive Grand Park area and on to their lunch destination of the Westfield Diner. Upon arriving they found the parking lot mostly empty with great parking along the front. They soon found out why as the restaurant was closed due to mechanical issues. Bill & Erika had been there just the day before to make the reservation and had not left a phone number, so no way for the diner to contact them. With Wylie along it was quickly suggested that we continue on East to the Red Habanero Mexican restaurant another half mile down the street, as they also have good parking. The group got there and were handled with no issues other than the lunch menu prices were not honored when it came time to pay as it was then 4. The meals were good and Jimmie even sampled their margaritas with with his full approval. Another fun afternoon, even with the aborted destination as Corvette Indy members again show that they are a very flexible group of Corvette lovers and most any destination works, as long as they can spend time together on a beautiful afternoon.
