2016 Mecum Auction
On Wednesday May 18, the second day of this year's auction, Jim Noelle & Bill Lapham headed to the fair grounds to take advantage of the passes that were given out to all the members at the meeting Monday evening. Also reporting in that he was there was Jim Alvis (he took pictures) and he spied Jerry Croy driving cars for the auction. Jim's observations were Wow, what a car show. Every direction you turn, there are more cars. One photo shows our own Jerry Croy driving a post WW II Ford coupe toward the auction block. There are loads of Corvettes, including a beautiful 1963 Z06. The weather was perfect today, and should be just as good through the remainder of the event. There may well have been other members there too, but with the overall size of the auction grounds and hours it runs it would be easy to miss running in to them. This year the entrance took you by some of the cars that will be auctioned on Saturday. In that group were many of the 200 Corvettes that will be auctioned during this year's event. From there the path in takes you by that day's entrants which can be walked by and carefully 'drooled' over. There were even a few Corvettes in Wednesday's group. From there you can head in to the auction arena or out to the other buildings and tents filled with subsequent day's offerings. There were many Corvettes that were desirable, with Jim especially taken by a C2 Red Convertible that would probably get him in trouble if he came back on Saturday with a bidders pass. On the way in to the show they saw a blue Lingenfelter Z06 parked in the lot with a Michigan dealer plate, so maybe member Ken's? The afternoon was great and as Jim had said should be just as nice for the rest of the week. So join one of the groups going with plans of Friday and Saturday already set up. On Friday Gary Cole sent pictures from his and Charlie Sherman's Tuesday visit. Their pictures are also below.
