Chevy IMS Pole Day 05/20
As with the past number of years Penske along with Chevrolet gave the club tickets to attend the Chevrolet events on Pole Day which includes a drive around the track and a catered lunch. Also a part of the day's package are garage passes for those that would like to see the cars up close along with watching the afternoon's qualifying time trials. A really great time donated by our sponsor and Chevy through the Central Indiana Chevrolet Dealers group. This year we were able to have 24 Corvettes attend the great day, which started with a 7:30 starting location at Traders Point. Once everyone had signed in and paid their $20 for the Sheriff escort to the track the group was underway a bit before 8. The caravan went well and soon the group was on the IMS grounds and signing in for their lunch tickets and patiently waiting for the track to open. Unfortunately the club Corvettes got split up due to the number of lanes being used changed and everyone got intermingled with Camaros. Among the Corvettes in line though was a new ZR1 in bright orange. It became a focal point during the wait time. Once on the track everyone had a sedate drive around and then were parked on Hulman Blvd. Before getting lunch host and Chevrolet Zone Manager for Central Indiana Mike Quinn introduced the two guest speakers Jim Campbell, U.S. Vice President Performance Vehicles and Motorsport along with Al Oppenheiser, Camaro Chief Engineer to talk about the current success of Chevrolet racing and the new Camaro that will soon be out. Once everyone had their fill from the buffet the group of around 450 Corvette and Camaro owners headed out to the track to enjoy the afternoon and the new ZR1 displayed outside.
