Penske Vettes N Vets Show 8/19
The third year was a charm as after two years of rain on our show the weather gods smiled on the Carmel American Legion location with a sunny hot August day. The great weather brought out a huge number of Corvettes on display too, with 106 registered Corvette Indy and 125 guest Corvettes rolling off of Carmel's Main street to the grassy acres behind the Legion, including a beautiful Grand Sport and Z06 that Penske brought over to display. As in past years the Penske sponsored show had a Vettes N Vets theme with a newly discovered worthy charity of Pets Healing Vets being run by the Hamilton County Humane Society being this years focus. The Pets Healing Vets is a program where a dog or other pet is matched up with a veteran with PTSD and is available to any Indiana veteran. A $1500 check was presented to the society chairman by the club, with more to follow in the future. Also one of the early recipients of the program was there with his dog and son and spoke about the help the program had been to him. After the opening ceremony by the Legion and the check presentation everyone was asked to do their voting with the guests voting for the Corvette Indy cars and Corvette Indy voting for the guests Corvettes. With so many beautiful Corvettes of all generations on both sides of the lot it was a formidable task in the time allotted. Also after the opening events the Legion started serving lunch to the amassed crowd. The money they make on the food is their income from the show and that arrangement is greatly appreciated by the club. As the early afternoon progressed the raffle tickets were drawn for the many prized that had been donated by a number local business and members. There was also the 50/50 drawing with the lucky winner getting over $400. While that was going on the tabulation crew was busy at work in the thankfully air conditioned Legion hall. With their work done on time the over 170 trophy presentations were started at 3:00. Included in this year's trophies were a special group that were awarded only to veterans, a well received set of awards. With the guest set first they started to pack up and head out with some from the St. Louis area for a long drive home. The Corvette Indy set along with the final commanders choice were given out and last pictures taken by 3:47, with the extremely sun baked members soon packed up and headed home.
