Colorado Rocky High
In August members John and Barb B. took a drive to Colorado, John's recounting of a trip up Mt Evan follows:
Barb and I safely back from Colorado in the Vette. We decided this is our official “road car” as we don’t tire in it as we do in other cars. Pictures are from a day trip up Mt. Evan’s the highest paved road in the country. Friend Gary moved out to CO last summer from Zionsville and suggested the trip in the Vette. At about 12,000’ we ran into fresh snow from the night before. Probably still 2 or 3 miles to go to get to the top but we were careful (no guardrails) and kept climbing. Gary was driving up since he knew he didn’t want to drive down. We got to 8 – 10 guys on motorcycles who were stopped but Gary pulled around them and kept going. At a blind corner we met a guy in an SUV with California plates who was coming down in the only set of tire tracks. He was in our lane but wouldn’t budge so Gary pulled to the outside track in the snow and kept going up. Glad we didn’t have performance tires! When we got to the top, the guys on the cycles told us that they were planning to turn around until two idiots in a Vette pulled around them and they decided to keep going.
I know lots of club members have had their Vette’s in the Rockies but likely none on Mt Evans in the snow.
