Rick's Boatyard & Surprise
On Wednesday 8/29 the Retiree's & Hookey Player group met at Greg & Donna's for a trip to Rick's Boatyard via Greg's usual circuitous route up through Carmel, down Michigan, with an aborted turn on to 96th street due to paving. After a quick cruise through a parking lot, we continued on to I465 getting off at 86th street and back on to our picturesque county road route. The group consisted of Greg & Donna, John & Margaret, Bill & Erika, Jack, Jim, Robert, Carolyn & her mom Dottie, with Dick & Bonnie and Shelley meeting us at the restaurant. As usual we had a good lunch and great company during our meal. The surprise part came at the end of the meal, Bill was presented with a birthday cake, cards, and Greg presented him with a Best of Show 65 trophy for making it to 65 on Friday. This whole surprise party was cooked up by Erika and the gang on the one Drive N Dine that Bill has missed this year! The cake even had a eatable picture of 'Ruby' their recently restored '70. The cake also celebrated Doug, who turned 55 today, by having a picture of his Black C5 Coupe. Unfortunately Doug and Arminta were unable to play hookey today, so Jim along with Bill & Erika delivered a portion of the cake with his car's picture, cards, and his own Best of Show 55 trophy to him after the drive. A great Drive N Dine was had by the whole group and especially Bill who had no idea of anything special happening on the trip today, little did he know that "Welcome to the Party Deck" would have special meaning.
