Main Event 2017
For the 28th Year in a row Corvette Indy held their annual autocross event on the weekend of April 29 & 30. Over the years the weekend has expanded into two days of seven events each day, the NCCC maximum. As in past years the non racing members came out in great numbers to support the annual weekend which now includes a greatly appreciated food tent, multiple raffles of the donated items, which included a $500 gift certificate from Discount Tire along with a number of other business donations. This area was staffed by a core group that has been doing it for several years now. There was also a dedicated group of corner workers braving the unfortunately damp weather that the end of April brought and the other members that handled timing along with other positions it takes to run a successful major event. This year, as last, the event was held at the old Indianapolis Airport parking lots. The course this year went in the other direction than last year from the middle to the North to miss spots that had broken up last year. Since this is the old lot and not used there will be no repair or repaving in it's future. Even with the predicted wet weather this year we had 29 drivers on Saturday and 39 on Sunday with enough entry fees to cover the cost of renting the huge airport lot and other items to run a successful event. Governor Butch DeWitt along with Tammy are the main driving force and deserve a lot of thanks for this successful event. As they did the leg work to again get use of the lot along with the needed auxiliary items such as golf carts and portable potties, tables and other numerous items needed to make the event successful. They even hosted a Saturday evening cookout for the out of town racers and all of the workers, which was greatly appreciated. Their dedicated leadership along with other old time and brand new members are what makes Corvette Indy the diverse and successful club that it is.
