Evening at Merry Ledges 8/6
After the afternoon visit to Cedar Farm and a couple hours rest at the Corydon Comfort Inn a majority of the group headed off to Merry Ledges. This peaceful and beautiful location is a restored lodge along the Blue river with other restored out buildings. The connection to the lodge was through Mary working with the owners husband known as 'Ranger Bob' as he works for the DNR and oversees the O'Bannon Woods properties which Mary's conservancy group Natures Conservancy works closely with. Over the years Mary has continued to work with both Bob and Missy in their quest to clean up and save the Blue river and surrounding area for future generations. The meal was again catered by the same lady that had done the afternoon's luncheon at Cedar Lake. With a completely different meal, including great cheesy potatoes, the assembled group again stuffed themselves. During the evening we were treated to a local vocalist that encouraged singing along and dancing to his varied repertoire. After dinner both Middy and Bob talked about their restorations and the area in general. Missy also shared that she is a 'Corvette girl' as she has owned 30 of them over the years and was really thrilled at having so many parked in front of the lodge. The club trip hosts then gave the two of them gifts of a bottle of buffalo Trace Bourbon for Bob and a much appreciated Corvette Indy shirt and a Corvette sign for Missy. The sign was promptly put on the fireplace mantel for future guests to enjoy. As the evening wound down the members were advised to carefully drive back to the motel and be ever vigilant for deer and other local wildlife. The evening wound down as the last few couples enjoyed the music with Erika adding percussion and Susie showing off he renewed knees to the last few songs. A great time for everyone capping of the fantastic day of sights in Southern Indiana. Again thanks to Mary McConnell, Steve Head, and John & Marg Herder for setting up the memorable trip with so many things to do packed in.
