Brown County Shrine Club Car Show
On a warm Saturday, August 29, 7 CI members led by Greg and Donna along with Merlin headed down to the Brown County Inn for the Brown County Shrine Club 2015 Corvette and Camaro Show. The group consisted of the aforementioned leaders along with Paul & Londa H, Wylie & Rita E, Jim & Shelley N, Bill R, Alan & Judy C, and Mike & Shirley B. After a fun drive down they met up with Jeff B and Chris W who had cruised down together to claim a spot and clean. Winners for the day were the Donna & Greg, Rita & Wylie, Chris, and Jeff. All but Bill of the morning drive group headed back behind Greg and ended up at the Granite City restaurant for dinner. Thanks to Wylie for the pictures and this report along with Bill for his selfie.

Saturday it was up early for a breakfast snack at the Drive & Dunk at Paradise Bakery. Greg, Donna and Merlin jumped in Donna's Corvette (The Patriot) and after Donna convinced Merlin that he had to ride in the back of the coupe instead of his customary spot in the passenger seat, it was off to Paradise. A quick stop for some needed gasoline and they arrived at Paradise before 8:30am to find that Jim & Shelley had beat them there and caught the worm. Soon several of the regular Drive & Dunk crowd including Ross G, Bob W, Jim S, Jim A, Rich P, Charity N, Tom P, John & Marg H, Keith & Carol S, and a few others started arriving to discuss the world's problems, enjoy coffee and bagels and start the weekend with friends.
At 9:15am Greg & Donna headed to the Vette and after a brief struggle between Donna and Merlin on the seating arrangements they drove off into the sunrise around I-465 with Jim & Shelley, Wylie & Rita E, Paul & Londa H and Bill R in tow. The group pulled into the pits at Kroger in Southern Plaza and after a brief defueling hit the track again with Mike & Shirley B and Alan & Judy C moving into 6th and 7th place. Greg called Harry Bond in Nashville and asked him to save at least 9 spots for Corvette Indy and told him to expect Chris W and Jeff B to arrive before the caravan and then the magnificent seven Vettes to roll in shortly before 11:30am.
The road to Nashville led the group on an enjoyable cruise down Mann Road to CR144 and then down SR135 to the Brown County Inn. The traffic was minimal and it was a nice drive through the country and around some fun curves and up and down the hills of southern Indiana. Rolling into the Shriner Corvette and Camaro Show the group found that Harry had treated them well and saved enough spots so the group could stay together and he directed Greg & Donna to a spot where they could stake a claim for Merlin to call a shady spot his own. Chris and Jeff were already there and were well lathered in the detailing sweat that they hoped would reward them with their accustomed trophies. The group parked, detailed their chariots and enjoyed the day. Shortly before 2pm Harry had a trophy presentation for the predominantly Corvette showing and Donna, Chris, Jeff and Rita all proudly smiled their way up to shake Harry's hand and accept an award.
After the show the group went three separate ways with Chris & Jeff taking a scenic route up SR135, Bill, who was missing Cheryl, darting for the fast track up I-65 and the rest of the pack opting to follow Greg & Donna over the river and through the woods for some back road country driving. After a brief discussion between Donna and Merlin on who sat where, the group headed east and then north on some roads that had little traffic but lots of curves and eventually emerged from the forest and corn fields to finish the return trip on US31 to I-465. Alan & Judy had eaten earlier so they headed back to the ranch but the rest of the group saw no reason to end the day yet so they decided to stop for dinner at Granite City which is literally just across the street from where the day began. Jim dropped Shelley off to bargain for tables while he darted home to trade the Vette for a metal car in case it rained. Greg & Donna made a quick trip home to drop a very pooped pup off for a nap while they went back out to eat and by the time they got back Shelley, Mike & Shirley, Paul & Londa and Wylie & Rita had ordered drinks. Jim's car swap was unnecessary as it didn't rain but he made it back soon after and they all enjoyed great food and much laughter. Eventually they were forced to call it a day and head home to put their Vettes to bed.
Just another fun outing for the club and everyone is looking forward to the next one!
