Anderson Corvette Association Rallies
On Saturday July 12 two member couples, Butch & Tammy and Bill & Erika, headed out early from the Lincoln College Car Show. Not because of the rain, but to head up to Anderson to join in running the Anderson Corvette Association's Rallies. The rallies are held in memorial to Tim Harless, a long time Anderson member, who actually won a Corvette Indy Main Event Rally back in 1997. Butch & Tammy are old hands at doing rallies, as Butch was last year's Indiana Region Rally Winner, but this was Bill & Erika's first time. Most of the 21 Corvettes there participated in the Fun Rallies and Poker Rallies, with just a few choosing to do the Poker rallies only. Basically a rally is a set of instructions with questions that need to be answered along the way. Many have to do with signs on the route, but some may have something to do with a landmark. An example question was "Where would you find the Crazy Donkey" at that point Bill & Erika were on 8th Street in Anderson where he spotted the Democratic Headquarters and pulled over to get the address. At the same time Erika said it probably was not the headquarters but the "Burro Loco Mexican Grill" across the street which was the correct answer of 21 W 8th Street. Along with the questions there were instructions on where to make turns as you progress along the route. This was not that easy, as a number of participants had a few issues. When you feel that you are either lost, or know you have missed a questions answer, it is best to turn around and backtrack to a know spot and restart you trek. Once they all arrived at the final destination the host club threw a huge evening dinner for all of the competitors and workers. After the dinner the winners were announced with Butch & Tammy getting 7th in the Fun Rally, while Bill & Erika got 10th out of the 18 participants! On the pure chance of the cards drawn Bill & Erika got a first in one of the poker rallies. A fun afternoon and evening, especially with the rain holding off!
