Dusty Road to Rick's
On Friday, September 25th, Greg & Donna B hosted a Retiree & Hooky Players' Drive N Dine. Jack H with his friend Jim, Susie H along with Terry S, Mike & Judy L, Wylie & Rita E, Rick M, John & Marg H and Pete D in his brand spanking new C7 met at Greg & Donna's at 1PM. After some conversation on the back porch the group of 8 Vettes headed north up Spring Mill Road and stopped at Jim & Shelley N's house who were doing a Garage Sale and couldn't attend. Most of the good stuff was already sold as Bill & Erika L had beaten us there and had already spent their lunch money on great buys. Greg tried to get Shelley to sell Jim's Corvette neon light sign that was in the garage. Didn't work, the sign did but Greg's attempt didn't. There were two racks of some nifty clothes available and we could've picked up a couple of Corvette Club jackets with another in town club's logo on them but even at the Club Member price of $1.50 each it seemed like the price was a little high. Rick M did find a nifty CD to use for cruisin' music and I think Jim said he grossed about $8 from the group. That's $1 per car. Big spenders.
After the garage sale the 8 Corvettes took a leisurely roll over towards Eagle Creek. At one point Greg looked in the rear view mirror and saw a billowing cloud of white. His first thought was he blew an engine coolant hose. Wylie who was following and saw Greg's Vette disappear behind a wall of white thought he might have blown his engine. A couple of others farther back had that same thought. Others thought Greg might have spun out in the dust. The mystery began to clear, even if the cloud didn't, when Donna pointed out an oncoming car had the same issue. Apparently the farmers were putting something on the fields and had spilled some on the roadway. Oh man, dust on Pete's brand new Vette!
Eventually the group ended up at Rick's Boatyard where Mike & Shirley B were already waiting for them. As usual the food was good and it was a perfect day for a top down ride and sitting outside looking at the water while they ate, talked and laughed. Another fun Corvette Indy outing!
Captain's Log Update: Captain Jim reported that the next day both of the above mentioned club jackets were sold. Jim & Shelley are now $4.00 richer and a Hispanic couple that speak little or no English and drive a rust and dent 1971 Pinto are the proud new owners. One can only imagine that when the duo are spotted around time sporting their new jackets and are asked "how long have you been in our club?" the answer might just be "no hablo ingles".
