Greg's Headlights
Greg recently gave his "Beater" a new look by removing the stock C5 headlights entirely and replacing them with aftermarket fixed headlights. The project was fairly straight forward although the lights came with no installation instructions (Editors note: Can't imagine that he would actually have needed to read them!)
Thankfully some help could be found on the internet!
The passenger side was done first and this proved to be more difficult because of a stock computer that had to be removed from the headlight mounting bracket and then remounted to the fender and because the new headlights must be accessed to bolt in from the bottom which required Greg to remove the pop off valve filter from his aftermarket supercharger. After finishing the passenger side the driver side was much easier.
You do need an extra pair of hands for this project though because someone (read Donna) needs to hold the headlight at the desired position while the bolts are tightened from underneath. Greg wired it so the angel eye halo lights around the headlight beams act as daytime running lights and flash with the turn signal indicator lights. Wiring the halo lights requires a little ingenuity but the actual headlights plug right into the stock wiring socket. He hasn't had any weather opportunity yet to take a night drive but a driveway test makes it appear that the aftermarket headlights may provide significantly improved night vision. He might just have to install a pair on his red 2001 too!
The headlight kits come in chrome or black and can be found from several internet sources for a little over $200 a set.
