Northern Indiana Pre-Trip 6/27
The trip to Northern Indiana planned for the weekend of July 29 & 30 is soon coming up. With that in mind the three couples that are planning the trip decided to cruise the route and check out all of the planned stops on a beautiful Tuesday morning. At 8:30 John & Marg Herder, Bill & Erika Lapham, along with Steve Head & Mary McConnell met at the newly remodeled Shell station at 151st & US 31, filled up and headed North. The route was up US 31 to US 24 and then up IN 19 to IN 14 and finally up IN 13, for a mix of highway and rural Indiana roads. The first stop of the three Corvettes was in Pierceton IN for a quick bathroom break after 2 hours of driving. Then on to the first destination of the day of The Channel Marker restaurant on Lake Wawasee in Syracuse for a leisurely lunch. After eating the group then headed to Shipshewana and the Farmstead Inn the overnight destination for the upcoming weekend. The group checked the motel's reservations which matched the clubs with currently 21 couples and 1 single signed up for the trip. From there the group navigated around the Tuesday afternoon Flea Market traffic and headed to Das Dutchman Essenhaus in Middlebury to check out parking and the reservation for the Saturday evening dinner. Once confirmed the intrepid three couples headed to South Bend and the Studebaker Mansion were everyone will enjoy a sumptuous buffet. The final stop of the day was the Studebaker Museum which actually is two museums, one of cars and the other the history of South Bend along with Notre Dame artifacts and history. This will be a trip that is a step back in time and enjoyed by many. After checking the reservations there are still 3 rooms available and the cut off date has been extended to Friday July 7. If you would like to go make your plans known soon.
