More Bison & Bovine Pictures
This is John Herder's write up and pictures from Sherry Chester
We left Trader's Point at 9 am on a beautiful sunny day. We drove metal cars to Fair Oaks Farm where we had a quick rest break and drove to Kankakee Sands, about ten miles away, to the bison viewing area. We received background information on the area and on the bison from the area manager. The employees had herded the bison along the west fence of their pasture so we could see them easily. Often , the bison are in the tall grass and brush where they are extremely hard to see. We drove to the road along the west fence where we only about fifty feet from the animals. We got some great photos and the kids were really impressed to be so close. As Mary warned us, the wind blowing across that open prairie was cold.
We then went back to Fair Oaks Farm for lunch. Later, we experienced the Dairy Adventurer or the Pig Adventure. Everyone headed home at their leisure.
