Michiana Rallies
On Saturday October 18 Bill & Erika, Butch & Tammy, and club friends Rich & Rita R met at the Marsh on Michigan Road at 9AM to start their trek north to South Bend and the Michiana Corvette Club rallies. Their first stop was Sherrill's 'Eat Here and Get Gas' restaurant where they joined up with Jim & Pam k for breakfast. Pam also works at the restaurant part time but actually had the day off and both were joining in on the rally trip too. While at breakfast it was confirmed that Rich & Rita were NOT going to do the rally, with the word 'divorce' mentioned several times during their bowing out conversation. Once everyone was very full the three Corvette Indy corvettes headed North into damp roads and stormy clouds. The further they went the wetter things were, at least Greg did not have to sit in wet stands as ND was at Florida on this game day.
The rallies starting point was at Tire Rack, which as the group pulled in, found that Tire Rack was also hosting autocross competition run by the Midwest Region. It was rather interesting to see the course run in the wet. Once signed into the rally competitors stayed in their cars or huddled under the sign in tent. As the start time got closer the rain slackened off and actually was down to light sprinkles when the last of 11 cars pulled out. The route was a pretty one, even though it was very wet, and everyone watched for slippery leaves and deer crossing the road. The rallies consisted of 40 questions, plus 5 bonus ones and one check in point (which also conveniently had a rest room). The end of the rally was at David Godfrey's house where the party was moved inside to returning rain. The meal being put on was also enjoyed by some of the day's autocross competitors, hence the Corvettes on trailers parked in the yard. Once the tally sheets were done our own Butch & Tammy won the Fun rally with all 40 questions correct and even a bonus one! They also took second place in one of he poker rallies too. With one more rally this year, look for them to take region rally honors. Once the awards were presented the group broke up and headed for home. At a gas stop Pam commented that the C7 was 'dirty', so it has now been baptized for trips with varying weather. The day was a lot of fun and the group got back to Indy in time for Jim & Pam to enjoy the ND 8PM kickoff with the other two Corvettes continuing home.
