Grand Prix of Indy
On May 10 Indianapolis Motor Speedway held the inaugural Gran Prix of Indy on a Saturday of great weather. Corvette Indy had a number of members at the track for the events held during the day. Butch D., Wiley E. and Jim S. volunteered to serve as flag marshals for the Grand Prix of Indy, watching the corners and enjoying the weekend's racing. They weren't supposed to take pictures when the race cars were on track, but as you can see there were other opportunities. Members Bob & Barb Y, Sammy V, and Wiley & Rita E. were invited by Penske to lap the track in their new C7s along with Robert S & Judi also invited by his dealer, they then enjoyed the race from a suite. Jim had planned to get pictures of the C7 parade, but missed them when the lap took place earlier than expected. To make matters worse, Wiley turned his video camera off instead of on during the lap. The good news is they got to drive quite a bit faster than we have on previous track laps with Wylie commenting that "the drive around the road course was really fun, got up to 67 on the front stretch and 80 on the back". Sounds like a lot quicker than club members will see during the next few times on the track!
Thanks to Jim for info and pictures, & Robert and Butch for pictures of the day.
