Kellam's Annual Chili Cookout 10/14
For roughly the 15th year in a row the Kellam's invited all of the club members out to their house for a chili supper and carry in along with a bonfire for everyone to enjoy. As in past year's it was held on the second Saturday of October, and enjoy they did, as the weather was the warmest in recent memory with even a few members in shorts. The chili did not run out but many of the other items that had been brought were readily consumed with cleaned out containers going home. Among the many members attending was Phil Vickery who had turned 89 that day, with a cake commemorating it mixed in with the multitude of desserts. With the warmth of the evening the circle was expanded further than usual and then a second ring was started around the bonfire to accommodate the large number of members. During the evening Jerry kept the fire burning and wandered around with his flashlights checking the group out. Late in the evening, after a number of party goers had already left, there was a rumble followed by a blue Ford pulling up to the house. It was Mel in his newly purchased '53 coming by to show it off. They had been unable to come earlier as the Minion's had been at former member Mark Gray's wedding in downtown Indy that afternoon. The car is in really good shape and sharp looking, even if it is a 'metal' Ford, and would have looked right at home at the day's earlier event at A Summer Place. Next year's cookout is already on the calendar, so be sure to plan to attend if you haven't already as it always is a great fall event.
