2015 Drive N Dunks
Drive N Dunk aka Cars & Coffee or Cars & Corvettes!
On any Saturday Morning you might find Corvette Indy Members showing up at the Paradise Cafe on 96th Street to get together for breakfast and a great social time. Starting out as a part of Cars & Coffee, this weekly get together of club members changed locations as the C&C group moved across the street to a less desirable location for our group to just spend the morning. One never knows who will show up and which Corvettes will be there, members even drive their 'metal' car to the event to be a part of the group.
The morning events usually start at around 9:00 and go to near noon depending on the crowd and how many Corvettes or other cars there are to view and how deep the discussions get.
Conversation among Members and other car enthusiasts is always interesting and lively. With a number of tables inside for their coffee and discussions the members have even morphed in to separate guys and gals tables with discussion topics suited to each.

To no one's surprise, there was a smaller gathering than usual at Paradise Café on the last Saturday of 2015. President elect Wylie E drove his beautiful 40th Anniversary C4 for the lone Corvette in the parking lot. Most conversation centered around family gatherings on Christmas day. Many were still overstuffed from big meals, desserts, and snacking. Happy New Year to all of our Corvette Indy family.

All three photographers were at Paradise Cafe on a Sunny but cold morning for lots of pictures of the assembled Corvettes and members. Along with their pictures Jim Alvis reported: Despite the cold morning (22°), several folks took advantage of the clear skies to drive their Vettes to Drive 'n Dunk. Conversations were wide and varied, one of which was the recently announced Red Bull Air Races at IMS in 2016. Yes, the very high performance single seat aerobatic aircraft will compete for the world championship at IMS in October. The race course will be within the confines of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and will take off and land on Hulman Boulevard. It should be quite an experience that many of us will want to attend. With Jim Shaver adding his report that Keith told us about his first Christmas as a newlywed. He was so proud of the shiny new ironing board he bought his bride. Needless to say, she was not impressed. The group broke up by 11, with everyone heading out to enjoy the sun and upcoming Christmas Holiday.

On a extremely warm day for December only 2 Corvettes made their way to the Paradise Cafe lot as it was also very damp from the overnight fog. This did not stop a number of members from showing up and enjoying the morning. Unfortunately another group of ladies had taken the corner round table and did not leave until after 10, when the guys were able to then spread out to their usual locations. Our ladies had taken their usual tabel away from the men, and had enjoyable conversations about Christmas preparation to watching multiple Christmas movies. The men's were varied including meeting & talking to Bob, a new member. Alan showed off his newly purchased leather jacket, which was very light in weight and had a rare logo. As the group broke up, many wished everyone else a Merry Christmas as a number will be heading to relatives or warmer locations for the Holidays.

Foggy conditions this morning caused several to leave their Corvettes in the garage, however two did manage to show up. The conversations were light and varied, covering a wide range of topics including the freezing fog, presidential candidates, where some of the fellows had done basic training, and the thought of having a combined picnic with another area Corvette club. As always a lot of topics, with many based on which end of the table you sat at. Most of the attendees will be attending the club's annual Christmas party this evening at the Carmel American Legion.

The Saturday following Thanksgiving gave us a low turnout, 11 people showed up on the wet morning, all still digesting holiday turkey. Keith Riley showed up with his father Harold "Hal" who is a spry 93 and lives in Florida, but grew up in Broad Ripple. We were shown pics of Hal's beautiful yellow '07 convertible. He is going to join the club. We invited a gentleman with a TESLA to join us, but he was meeting someone, so immediately the conversation turned to electrics, hybrids, and hands free driving. Marg and Donna sequestered themselves to a back table , but Ross G. made sure they didn't leave UN-pestered. All were awaiting the upcoming Christmas party next Saturday, head count now at 104 (potential fire marshal problems??). The abnormal 3 week hiatus from the club meetings has many confused. Thanks to Ross for the pictures and report plus he needn't worry as the Legion has an approved capacity well over our groups number.

The Saturday before the Thanksgiving holiday was a packed house at the Paradise Cafe with over 30 members and 1 lone Corvette, which was quickly taken home when it started snowing! That member did come back in his metal car, so did not miss any of the multiple discussions from the ensuing weather to sports including the usual talk about football and even the NASCAR final race of the chase and Jeff Gordon's career. There was also talk of the upcoming Holiday and who was traveling and those that are staying home. The travelers include Jerry & Elaine who are heading to the UK for the last road show of the 3 presenters of Top Gear, the ultimate 'I Was There' will soon be on posted when they return. Everyone had a great time and headed for home as the snow actually started to stick on the roads, not a day to have a Corvette out.

Both Jim Alvis & Jim Shaver sent in pictures and write ups from this Saturday's gathering which we thank them for there help.
Jim Saver's account: A sunny but brisk Saturday morning brought out a good number of Corvettes and their owners for our weekly get together at Paradise Bakery. We all had concerns about the terrorist incident in Paris. John Herder was there to collect money for the Christmas Party. We are up to 72 signups with more expected at the regular Monday meeting. Jim Alvis shared his experiences at the recent Vettes for Vets event at the Corvette Museum Motorsports Park. There is considerable interest in having a larger group attend next year's event. As usual, the ladies had their own table in a much quieter area of the restaurant.

The conversation varied from the usual sports events to a review of the Veterans Day Parade downtown on Wednesday. Jim A brought a couple of maps of the NCM Motorsports Park, having just returned from the Vets 'n Vettes event on November 5th through the 7th. Judging by the level of interest in the NCM's Vets 'n Vettes, it is likely several CI folks will try to attend next year's event. The highlight of the event is the opportunity for participants to take active or retired troops from Forts Knox and Campbell for a ride around the road course. There are several other activities that recognize U.S. Military veterans for their service.

Great turnout at Paradise Drive N Dunk. the largest group for of the year. With outdoor activities winding down, Paradise was the place to be on a cool but sunny morning. As usual, the female members quickly moved away from the noisy men. The final Vette count was 19 today. Tammy & Butch D drove up from Mooresville to welcome our newest members Donna and Mark M. they signed up for the club today and gave us some quick info on their bright red corvette. With a little hazing Mark settled right in, I'm sure the ladies made Donna feel right at home as well. (I'm not sure if they mentioned the "Cook Book"). Charles B. gave us the bad news about his Z06, and the connection he had with another driver trying to occupy the same space on the road. The damage was reported as minimal cosmetics and not structural. Condolences from everyone to Charles. Lots of discussion for the upcoming Veterans day Parade, and the Dec 5 Christmas party. John H. was doing a great job of getting the parade and party members info for both events. Thanks John!! It looks like the club will have great representation at both of the upcoming events. Thanks to Ross for the write up and his using Jim S's camera for a number of the day's pictures, Jim and Bill R along with Bill L also took a few too.

Three Corvettes showed up this morning in spite of the threat of showers. The major topic of discussion was Rita's Spooktacular Halloween party the previous evening. The number and quality of costumes this year was over the top. Fifty or so folks showed up at one time or another and were treated to excellent BBQ, salads, and desserts. It was great fun. A description and photos appear elsewhere on this website.

A chill was definitely in the air this morning – a 38 degree chill. The sky was clear, so seven Corvettes showed up this morning, a little smaller turnout than normal. Several regular Corvettes & Coffee participants were on their way to participate in the Drive & Dine trip to Huntington, IN. Bill R displayed the custom printed throw that Cheryl had made for his birthday on October 9. Needless to say, they are very proud of their beautiful C5 coupe, as evidenced by many show trophies. Thanks to Jim A for the report and pictures and Bill R for the picture of Jim taking pictures.

As usual, the conversations were wide and varied, ranging from college and professional sports to Corvette bling. The discussions included a few vacancies for elected positions for 2016. Most attendees this morning were planning on attending Kellam's annual cook-out and bonfire this evening – the weather will be perfect.

The morning was quite an adjustment from the past several months – welcome to Fall. A slight drizzle and gusty winds made it feel like the low 40s when in fact the temperature was in the low 50s. Most opted to drive their metal cars this morning, although three Corvettes did made an appearance. Most conversation centered on the weather affecting the east coast. Most likely there will be some postponed college football games. The last race of the season for Corvette Racing is taking place at Road Atlanta today under miserable weather conditions.

A misty morning still brought out a number of Corvettes to Paradise Cafe for the Saturday morning get together. With a number of members there, the ladies soon spun themselves off to another table as the whole group stayed inside today due to the nippy weather. Around 10 am six of the gathered Corvettes headed off to Butler to stage for the college's homecoming parade. Conversations were the usual variety with football one of the major topics at the men's table. As the morning wound down those that didn't go to the parade headed off to their usual Saturday afternoon projects.

On a wet rainy morning CI had 7 members brave the warm but wet weather, but no Vettes were to be found on the grounds of Paradise Cafe this weekend. Even with the smaller than usual attendance, minus the two Jims, our normal picture takers, Ross G. took a few pic's just so we could say we were there, and so webmaster Bill could say it "Happened". Conversations were about, basement water, Greg's mother passing, Woodwind golf course closing, recent Florida trips, Buddy & Lorna H's newly acquired 2000 magnetic red convertible (their new beater car for Florida trips), and the Upcoming Westfield parade and the past Carmel parade somehow made the list of conversation. We even talked to a Georgia Tech Alum on his way to the ND football game with his kids. Unfortunately (fortunately?) Greg was not there to give him a hard time.

The turnout this morning was a bit smaller than usual. Several of the 'regulars' were gathering in Zionsville for the Fall Festival Parade a little later in the morning. It was 55 degrees this morning, a bit too cool to sit outside. Nonetheless, the conversation was lively and varied.

With the holiday weekend upon us and no events planned still nearly 30 members of the club stopped by Paradise Cafe during the morning to get caught up on the latest Corvette information. The day was hot and clear so most everyone brought their Corvette out for the morning get together. Conversation covered the usual topics, with a bit of football also mentioned at the men's tables. There was also a reminder that due to the Holiday weekend the next meeting will be on Tuesday at Lincoln Tech with pizza at 6:00 and the meeting at 7:30. The rest of the group hung around and relived last week's trip to Mackinac. Other topics were speeding tickets (no names given - some times what is said at a Drive N Dunk stays at the Drive N Dunk) and expensive violins.

Also pulled in on a trailer was a 1957 Corvette that was heading to the New Jersey area to receive some needed attention. Discussions covered the upcoming trip to Michigan and other events including a Drive N Dine to the Beef House and the Brown County Shrine Show in a couple of weeks.

With the Saturday being busy with several car shows the group that got to Paradise Cafe was still large with 13 Corvettes and 18 members enjoying the beautiful weather on the patio. This was much better than the non pictured (it didn't happen) group of 4 the previous week. Conversations covered the usual topics including Greg cleaning out his garage of gently used Corvette parts. The group broke up around 11, with some headed to Anderson to see the Colts, while others were going to use the great weather for outside projects. With the upcoming week's weather looking good after Monday be sure to watch for a Retiree & Hookey Player DnD or two to be planned. Thanks to Bill R & Jim A for additional photos.
With the Saturday being busy with several car shows the group that got to Paradise Cafe was still large with 13 Corvettes and 18 members enjoying the beautiful weather on the patio. This was much better than the non pictured (it didn't happen) group of 4 the previous week. Conversations covered the usual topics including Greg cleaning out his garage of gently used Corvette parts. The group broke up around 11, with some headed to Anderson to see the Colts, while others were going to use the great weather for outside projects. With the upcoming week's weather looking good after Monday be sure to watch for a Retiree & Hookey Player DnD or two to be planned. Thanks to Bill R & Jim A for additional photos.

Another weekend of Car Shows and other events reduced the number of members that stopped in for coffee and discussion at Paradise Cafe. The weather was nice for once though so most everyone did drive their Corvette. After the group broke up around 10:30 several headed over to check out the Classical Glass show and support the members that had been cleaning their Corvettes for weeks. There will also be a DnD later in the afternoon being held by Greg & Donna, with the destination up in the air due to possible rain North of the city in the later in the day

The turnout was a bit smaller than usual due to quite a few Corvette Indy members and friends opting to attend the Bosma Cruise-In For Vision Charity Car Show Hosted by Lincoln College of Technology. A somewhat sunny morning brought out a good number of Corvettes and male members of Corvette Indy. The only ladies were Marg early then Erika & Donna later who kept Greg and Merlin company on the patio. The guys group of course talked cars, including the cleaning that was needed after the greasy air bath that everyone got at Champps on Monday night. There was also discussion about getting to Bob's Garage and the general mess that construction is causing the many businesses along the 31 corridor. They then talked about Opti-spark and why it was a problem in the C4 years that had it. The group was very fluid with a number coming and going. Thanks to the two Jim's for day's pictures.

A total of five people showed up at Paradise Bakery & Café this morning. The vast majority were on their way to the final day of Bloomington Gold 2015 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. A lot of today's conversation centered around the adverse weather and the inherent problems with the new venue. It was an amazing site to see thousands of Corvettes at the speedway, and to witness the certification process taking place.

A group of 6 Corvettes and 14 members made it to the Saturday morning get together. This included Jerry & Elaine with their grandson, who had pancakes and sausage for breakfast. The group was a bit smaller than usual as a number of the regulars had headed West to the Strawberry Festival Car Show. A much smaller group showed up this morning in spite of the beautiful weather. People were busy with family gatherings, the 500 Festival Parade, and a limited number of Corvette owners were able to participate in the Nite Before the Race event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway thanks to the Central Indiana Chevrolet dealers and Penske Chevrolet. Greg and Donna's daughter stopped by briefly, as well as new visitor Brett to check us out. He has a red 73 coupe with third party mag wheels, and is wanting to trade them for a set of wheels original to the car. Brett and Mike stayed after most of the group had left to discuss their cars, a '73 and '74 coupe, then it was on to enjoy the rest of the Memorial Day weekend.

With early morning rain and more threatened for later in the day only 2 Corvettes made it to Paradise Cafe. The assembled group was also a bit smaller as there were several of the regular attendees out at the track watching the first day qualifying. Those there had the usual great morning of conversation with the ladies off in the quiet back room area. Outside Rich with Rex enjoyed the morning and were later joined by Greg and Merlin. Al, Wylie, & Rita were there before heading off to the Mecum auction at the fairgrounds with the possibility of another Corvette heading to a new home as Rita was getting a bidders pass. Check back later to see if a purchase was made.

Today's Drive & Dunk at Paradise Bakery & Café was a bit different. Nothing to do with the Corvette Indy members and friends gathering at Paradise, but what happened to Indianapolis Cars & Coffee across the street. The organizer of Indianapolis Cars & Coffee received a notice mid-week from the strip mall property manager that effective immediately, IC&C is no longer welcome. The number of people and cars that have been gathering on Saturday mornings had outgrown the space and the activity was interfering with the small businesses. That created some concerns for the Saturday morning Corvette gatherings at Paradise Bakery. Greg B immediately contacted the Paradise managers to determine if there was any direct impact. He reported that it had no impact on us and we are welcome at Paradise. That is because most Saturday morning attendees buy breakfast items and beverages to support the café. That was not the case across the street. On a lighter note, Jerry and Elaine C brought their 15 month old grandson to Drive & Dunk. He was the center of attraction this morning by high five-ing most around him. Thanks to Jim A for the report and pictures.

Even with 19 Corvettes headed to the Lafayette Veterans Home there were still 15 Corvettes at Paradise Cafe for the morning's Drive N Dunk. Included in the group was Charlie B, who had forgotten that he had signed up for the day's Lafayette trip. A good laugh was had over his missed opportunity when reminded by Ross, who along with Greg & Donna, had seen the other group off from the Marsh on Michigan road. With the beautiful morning a good amount of time was spent outside checking out the Corvettes in the lot and enjoying the weather.

At one end of the table a possible fall club trip to the NCM was discussed as was baseball pitching and coaching techniques. The newly released specs for the 2016 Stingray topped the list. We also talked about the Spring Rally on May 3. Interest was mixed but several do plan to participate. Another topic was the Vettes for Vets drive to Lafayette on May 2. The big change this year is the request for cash donations instead of personal items. A couple of boat owners in the group compared notes on when to put their boats into the water.

After the usual morning discussions the men headed outside to check out any over the winter changes to the assembled Corvettes. Al was given a hard time for a bird's unapproved addition to his trunk area, but thumbs up for his new passenger compartment air deflector. We all also observed Bob's upgraded color coordinated red shoes along with Randy's blue ones. A potential new member pulled in with his burgundy C6 to find out more about us.

A beautiful morning bought out a good crowd of 22 happy Corvette owners and passengers with their corvettes. We arrive to find a group of ladies in "our" corner table so we spread out next to them. Conversation covered many topics from the weather to getting the lawn mowers out for the first time this year. We took advantage of the nice morning as it was finally warm enough that many congregated outside to see and discuss the latest updates.
Quite a few of the group have already signed up for the Penske all Corvette car show on June 20th at the Carmel American Legion.

A crisp and sunny Spring morning brought the Corvettes and members out in a good number to enjoy the Saturday morning get together.
Twenty two Corvette owners took advantage of the beautiful morning to show up at Paradise Bakery & Café. Wylie responded to last week's comments about his oversize wrist watch with two watches. Tom F and his twin brother showed up with their new C7s. There was quite a bit of interest in Tom's Laguna Bluet tintcoat coupe because of the paint treatment he had performed on the rear lower fascia below the tail lights. From the factory, that panel is black on every C7. Tom had seen a C7 with that panel painted the body color, and liked it. He had the rear panel on his new C7 painted to match the Laguna Blue body color. His brother liked the combination also, and is having the rear panel of his Torch Red coupe painted to match. Look at the attached photos to see the comparison. Several of the folks agreed the body color match was very appealing

The sunny but cold morning brought out eleven Corvettes and about 25 people. Conversation was lively, particularly at the round table. The subject of tonight's Notre Dame/Kentucky basketball game was discussed with most wanting ND to win but thinking KY will prevail. Bloomington Gold was again a hot topic with many looking forward the the event. The other hot conversation was a wrist watch worn by one of our members. It was discussed at length because of its massive size. Wylie took it all in stride, but probably won't wear it again in this crowd. We noticed three guys hanging around Larry's ZR1. When one of them put a note under the wiper, Larry decided it was time to see what they wanted. It seems they were inviting him to enter his car in a show. The ladies moved to the opposite end of the room to lessen the noise from the bad boys, but it did not seem to help much.

There would have been 13 Corvettes, but Wylie had left his door ajar on the C4 and therefore had a dead battery and the C7 sat above it on the lift. The number of topics from who's brackets were broken, also a split between rooting for Butler or ND and of course car talk, plus many other topics were covered by both the men and ladies tables. A number of pictures document the day, including Bill taking pictures of Bill taking pictures.

A damp but warmer Saturday morning brought out 25 Corvette Indy members but only one lonely Corvette to Paradise Cafe. As always multiple topics were discussed, including an alternate dinner location for the upcoming Tuesday's St. Pats day with Jason's Deli getting the nod. The Monday night meeting is expecting to see a bumper crop of Corvettes as it is predicted to be in the 70's and very dry for the evening. The group will also head to DQ after the meeting as there will be free small cones that evening for DQ's 75th Anniversary.

Congratulations to Rich P and Tom P, the only two of our members that were brave enough to drive their Corvettes today. Several of those present said they had thought about it but decided against. Naturally the conversation turned to the weather and the probability of Corvette drives in the very near future. Bloomington Gold was again a topic of conversation and it was agreed that their website is challenging but worth the effort to navigate it. Other conversations were about some of our other upcoming fair weather Corvette activities. With upwards of 6" of snow dumped over night the Saturday morning group at Paradise Cafe was much smaller than usual. So much so that Donna had to sit with the guys to not be by herself as no other ladies ventured out to be at their usual table. With our regular wo contributors of pictures, Jim A & Jim S, digging out Bill R stepped up and took the day's pictures proving "that it did happen".

Keith was the only one brave enough to drive his Corvette this morning. He took advantage of his handicapped parking permit to park next to the entrance door. We got off to a small start to the morning but once again, the group grew. Topics ranged from college/pro football, Woodward Dream cruise, and the performance of the C7 Z06. Wylie and Al reported that they are making progress on a route for the Bloomington Gold Road Tour.

The last Saturday of January brought out 5 Corvettes, 20 guys and 7 gals of the Corvette Indy membership. Topics were certainly varied from the Super Bowl, dogs with Bill R talking about his guest beagles and Greg on Merlin and his frisbee training, golf and a possible CI Golf outing, the new Indy Eleven stadium with low support for it and the question of "what is offsides soccer?", ask Jim S an explanation. The talk also covered Corvettes and how they did at the Rolex 24 hour with the C7-R 1st & 3rd place to low gas prices and effects on people. There was also discussion of upcoming events that we can actually take the Corvettes too. The group is getting restless after seeing Al's tan from his 10 day trip south, Spring can not get here soon enough!

The last Saturday of January brought out 5 Corvettes, 20 guys and 7 gals of the Corvette Indy membership. Topics were certainly varied from the Super Bowl, dogs with Bill R talking about his guest beagles and Greg on Merlin and his frisbee training, golf and a possible CI Golf outing, the new Indy Eleven stadium with low support for it and the question of "what is offsides soccer?", ask Jim S an explanation. The talk also covered Corvettes and how they did at the Rolex 24 hour with the C7-R 1st & 3rd place to low gas prices and effects on people. There was also discussion of upcoming events that we can actually take the Corvettes too. The group is getting restless after seeing Al's tan from his 10 day trip south, Spring can not get here soon enough!

A sunny but cold morning had a few club members bring their Corvettes out to the Saturday get together. The mens group was very boisterous and loud enough that the ladies moved their location away from their usual table so that they could have quiet conversation. The mens topics varied from cars, to sports and politics depending on which end of the table you were located at. Conversations also included 'deflate-gate', college and professional sports in general, and even a retirement facility exclusively for Corvette enthusiasts As the morning progressed the weather turned cloudy which made everyone there comment on hoping for a true early spring and everyone getting their Corvettes out.

The weather was moderate this morning, but everyone left their Corvettes in dry garages. There were several discussions taking place including college and professional football, the upcoming Colts vs. Patriots game, and the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ. The group was pleasantly surprised when Jim and Bonnie S arrived with three year old grandson Noah. They were babysitting while their daughter Natalie was delivering granddaughter Hannah Marie. Noah was kept busy putting stickers in his sticker book. Grandpa Jim says Noah quickly recognizes Corvettes. Two bits says he will be a future Corvette owner, a mid engine one by then. The +2 degree outside temperature did not deter about 18 Corvette Indy members and friends from attending today's Corvettes & Coffee. The conversation was very lively today covering many subjects, with a raucous one including mention of a refrigerator at one of the tables (don't ask). Robert was also there with his new 4x4 Chevy truck in it's nearly Electron Blue Land Shark color, with he and Jim S showing off their remote start capabilities as they were leaving. The camaraderie of this group is amazing and open to anyone who owns or enjoys Corvettes. Thanks to Jim A for pictures and report.

The first Saturday of 2015 was a dark, rainy, and cold morning that kept the Corvettes away, but not the loyal Corvette owners. Conversations were wide and varied, ranging from the New Years Day lap around I-465 to the Music City Bowl where Notre Dame edged LSU 31-28. A couple of drive & dines are in the works for 2015 by John and Marg H, so we have much to look forward to.
