C6 glove box latch replacement
As we were driving down the road about a week ago, Donna tried to open the glove box and was having trouble so I reached over and gave it a tug and handed Donna the handle which broke off in my hand. She called me the dummy names a couple of times and gave the be more careful lecture. That evening I hit google and found out there are a ton of other dummies out there as these things are coming off faster than you can make toast. One dummy ripped his off in the show room with the salesman sitting in the car with him. GM didn't exactly over design this part and they are fixing the problem about as fast as they didn't for the C5 column lock up issue and a few other defects they ignored through the C5 and C6 models. Unfortunately these little suckers are expensive, about $75 at your local dealer. I found one for $52.85 delivered off Ebay and felt like I had a better deal than $2.50 a gallon gasoline! Fortunately the fix once you swallow hard and shell out the bucks is quick and easy. You'll need a pair of needle nose pliers to open the glove box, a Torx 15 driver bit to remove the 2 screws that hold the piece you didn't break off, your car key and something pointed and small like an ice pick or small Phillips screw driver to remove the lock from the broken piece. Watch this "how to" I found on youtube to save you a lot of learning curve and 15 minutes later you should be leaning back with a smile, sighing and smoking your afterwards cigarette. Hope you don't break this lil sucker off but if and when you join the dummy club this tutorial and about 53 bucks will make you well again!
