Spring Fling 2013
This years Spring Fling was held at the new Ray Skillman Chevy dealership on the South East side of town on May 5.
The following account of the day is from Greg with the photos supplied by Jim and Jeff.
The mist was falling out of a blue gray May sky and Corvette Indy rode again. Jeff B & Charity N with their puppy Halo along with Jim & Shelley N met at Greg & Donna B's house and they caravan to a meeting place on the southeast side without a plastic car between them. (Okay, the "blue" part was an exaggeration.) Meeting them were Susie H & Terry S, Randy & Sherry S and Chris & Paula W also all in magnetic metal cars. At this point we nicknamed ourselves Corvetteless Indy. Soon Greg T joined the group and saved our reputation by braving the elements and driving his C6! From there Randy & Sherry led the club over to Ray Skillman's for the annual Spring Fling (AKA Spring Shower) event. Eventually we were joined by Jim A, Rich & Suzanne B, Pat & Carol H, Mel & Norma M, Rich & Machelle P and Randy & Amy S. Rich & Suzanne, Mel & Norma and Randy & Amy added to our Vette count.
In total we had about 15 cars there but only 4 of them were Vettes.
We all checked in and headed for the free eats which consisted of a hot dog, baked beans, chips, fruit and soda. Fortunately tables under tents were provided so we were able to eat out of what turned out to be a day of light but steady drizzle. Later we waited for the door prize drawings as the rain put a serious damper in attendance and nearly everyone got at least one door prize. Several prizes were much appreciated restaurant or pizza certificates along with some other nifty items. Greg T won a "super chamois" which seemed like an exceptionally well thought out prize given the weather! Jeff B won a box of sparkly nail paint which we can't wait to see him wear at a future club event! Rich B won an exceptionally attractive license plate frame equipped with western insignia and a set of longhorns that will look terrific on his Vette!
Everyone had fun but for the Hoosier Corvette Club that sponsored the day the weather was a disappointment because probably only about 20 Vettes showed up. Skillman's new show room is nice but many missed Skillman's auto museum where the past several events have been held.
A final Note
Jim N has expressed a desire now to settle on a new Chevy Spark instead of a new C7 - Right!!! (see picture below)
