Al's After Christmas Project
A day before the deep freeze I installed some new Christmas gifts on my C5 in my slightly heated garage (but warmer than outside).
Armed with Larry light and tools, I embarked.
To install the aluminum trim rings around the 6 gauges in the instrument panel, one must remove the waterfall (with convertibles), console, many #10 hidden star screws, two sizes of nuts, stereo, knee panel under steering wheel, aluminum tubes for wiring, drop steering column, instrument panel bezel, instrument panel, clear face on front of instrument panel, many contemptuous electrical connectors, super glue trim pieces, and repeat the process in reverse.
While I had the console off, I removed the stock 6 speed shifter and installed a new Hurst shifter (unbelievable!).
I also installed chrome “Corvette” letters in the embossed dash panel in front of the passenger and the color decals on the center of the steering wheel.
These are very tedious little pieces. This interior work pretty much killed a day.
I also installed a new chrome license plate frame/backup light panel and replaced the 51 watt stock low beam headlight bulbs with 80 watt units.
Enclosed pics will verify the complexity of the project along with the finished product.
I am waiting for the LED taillights that I ordered.
At late winter, I plan to take the car to Jerry to do paint repairs, then install my new “Corvette” letters for the front and rear fascias.
I just celebrated one year ownership of this car.
