REVS Museum - Naples Florida
The car museum called REVS Institute in Naples, FL was visited on Thursday, 12/31/15 by Jerry and Elaine Croy with Dick and Karen Higgins. We went through the amazing collection in three (3) hours but to really do it justice, you need a full day. Elaine and Jerry did visit the museum last December and was so impressed we thought Dick and Karen would enjoy it and we needed to see it again. The museum is open 10-4 Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday with a reservation. Below are just a few of the more than 100 vehicles in the collection which are on display in the museum.

Bristol TN NASCAR Race
Bonnie and Jim S. met their California friends, Scott and Lisa M. at the Bristol Motor Speedway for a weekend of NASCAR racing August 21-22. Bristol was on Scott's "bucket list" so Lisa put the package for us. Bristol is known as "The Last Great Colosseum" and it lives up to its name. Bonnie, Lisa, and Scott wanted to have front row standing for the pre=race Steven Tyler concert, but Jim opted for the air conditioned Bud Tap Room. Once the racing started, there was no conversation: it was LOUD. The entire starting field for the Cup race qualified on the half-mile track between 14 and 15 seconds!

Beef House Test Trip
Tom & Nancy had asked Bill & Erika to go along on a route test drive to the Beef House in Covington IN so on Thursday August 13 they took the trip. It was a beautiful day for the 2 lane route to the destination. Once there they all had a great lunch and made plans for the up coming trip. The full DnD will take place in a few weeks. They took a slightly different 2 lane route back, so will have several options for those that attend to get home besides I74.

Checking Out Coalition 08/08
Not attending any car shows after Drive N Dunk, Greg & Donna plus Bill & Erika checked out a potential new DnD spot later in the afternoon. This was Coalition a new pizza place. It is in the new strip mall on the south side of 116th street between Spring Mill & N Illinois and in site of the new Mormon Temple. Parking is limited, food iffy so there probably won't be a planned Corvette drive there soon. After eating they drove around Carmel and checked out Dick & Bonnie's building site on the north-side. It has a deep basement and a large open space behind their lot.

Wylie's Trip to the Dragon Wylie and the family headed to Gatlinburg in July and had fun while there. He then sent in the following about his day on the Dragon. Here are a couple pictures from my recent trip to the Tail of the Dragon with my son-in-law. The first picture is on the way over to the tail through the Smoky mountain foothills. The second of course is driving the dragon. Very fun experience. |

Spring Mountain Video
From new member Evan Meagher: Just got back this morning from spring mountain for the corvette owners school and it was amazing. They had PDR in most of them and it gave some great footage! Check it out (and be sure to give my name when you sign up so I can get a discount on my next trip!) :)

Hawk Visits Summer Trace
Bob Hawk, at Bill Reynolds request, visited Summer Trace to give a talk on his multiple careers in flying as a fighter pilot, astronaut (notice his flight suit still fits), and commercial pilot. The group of 40 residents greatly appreciated hearing about his exploits and had a great June 1 afternoon being entertained by Hawk's adventures. |
BookerS Bar & Grill in Kirkland 05/19
Bill & Erika's mailman Tim, knowing that they like to take rides and then eat, had suggested a newly opened restaurant in Kirkland called BookerS. To check it out as a possible DnD destination they invited Wylie and Rita along to plan a route there. Taking a nice drive up SR 38 they arrived in town and parked safely in the bank parking lot. Once inside they were treated to a rustic look with a fresh wood smell of the 5 week old restaurant. The food was very good and the menu quite varied. Look for this to be a club destination in the near future with a potential spirited ride to get there.

Neil Diamond 04/17
On a warm spring evening Bill & Erika headed to Bankers Life Field house to enjoy their first ever Neil Diamond concert. They have been long tome fans much to the chagrin of their daughter who was continuously exposed to Neil while growing up. The concert was great with nearly every seat in the field house was full. The crowd was standing during much of the two hours of familiar and new music that was sung by the 74 year old Neil.

Putnam Park on a Sunny Saturday 04/11
Bob invited Bill & Erika to a luncheon at The Club at Putnam Park and then enjoy the sights and sounds of an afternoon at the racetrack. Bob also showed them around his garage area along with getting his Gator out for later use around the track. There were several other Putnam Park members there which Bob introduced to Bill & Erika and some interesting stories came out about Bob, Indianapolis drivers, and other track exploits. The members had come with a Z28, several Porsche and a Mustang besides Bob's Z51 to run on the track. The catered meal was great, with the Club's surroundings very upscale. Unfortunately Bill neglected to take pictures on the inside! Please check out their website to see the club.

Almost Stranded on Meeting Night 03/16
Butch & Tammy were almost stranded after the meeting & the only people that didn't go get free ice cream were Brent & Betty. With no jumper cables any where to be found Betty & Tammy stayed with car & played trivia crack while Butch & Brent headed off to get cables & since the car was almost on E he also picked up a gas can & some gas...once it had gas & a jump they were on their way. THANKS to Brent & Betty for staying and helping Butch and Tammy. Of course this now makes them eligible for both the 'Battery" and "Gas Can" Clubs. |
SweetCars 03/14
On Saturday Barry R along with Gary Smith and Randy Westbrook, both former members of CI, went to SweetCars in Ft. Wayne Saturday morning for their Open House and breakfast. The food was great and a large turnout. SweetCars sells high-end sport and exotic cars. They have events throughout the year. This was their first one of the season. Looks like the club should plan a Corvette drive there. http://www.sweetcars.com/

Wolf Creek Habitat 02/21
On Feb 21 which happened to be an absolutely snow day Jeff B along Charity N and her daughter & niece drove down to the Wolf Creek Habitat for Wolves in Brookville, IN. There was one lane drivable on I-74 East to Brookville, thank god for my 4 wheel drive SILVERAIDO. We arrived as it started to snow again which was perfect for the wolves. The keepers went into the cages first and then let us in. I remember when I was 15 living in Texas and my Dad's friend had a 7/8 Timber Wolf that got to be over 200 lbs which is bigger then they get in the wild. All the wolves we got to interact with were extremely curious and gave us all kisses. They then started to howl which was rather awesome to hear.

Detroit International Auto Show 01/23
Pat Hogan along with Barry Rector, former member Gary Smith attended the Detroit International Auto Show on Friday, Jan. 23rd. It was quite crowded but we got to see lots of new and interesting cars. The 2015 Z06 was particularly nice as was the two Stingrays that people could sit in and "abuse" with fingerprints and muddy feet. Several "concept" cars we also there. All-in-all, it was a nice trip. Here are the pictures that Gary took, after all, if there aren't pictures, it never happened. Thanks Pat for the report on a fun trip.
