Penske Appreciation Cookout 10/24
On Saturday, October 24th, Corvette Indy members gathered at Penske Chevrolet to say thank you for being such a wonderful sponsor. Greg & Donna loaded up their new Penske Honda SUV with coolers, soft drinks, hamburgers, hot dogs, condiments, chips, etc. and took it to Penske about 9:30am. Wylie & Rita brought the ice. Bob Y showed up with his truck load of "what if you need this" and once again saved the day as Penske's grill had one empty propane tank but Bob just happened to have a spare one in his truck! We had a great club turnout despite the threat of rain but only a few drove their Vettes so the anticipated display of Vettes for customers didn't develop as hoped. Those that came to help included: Terry Adams, John & Diana Albright, Jim & Judi Alvis, William & Sharon Arnold, Chuck Bailey, Mike & Shirley Berry, Greg & Donna Bowron, Alan & Judy Carnahan, Kim Cannon, Gary & Marian Cole, Wylie & Rita Etscheid, Al Forey, Ross Gullet, Paul Habecker, John & Marg Herder, Pat Hogan, Jim & Shelley Noelle, Berry Rector, Bill & Cheryl Reynolds, Keith Riley, Bonnie Shaver, Steve Shepard, Charlie Sherman, Terry Sitzer, Mike Tann, Greg Toolan, and Bob Young.
Competition for chief cook was quite steep with Paul H, Bill R, Terry S and Mike T teaming up to cook the hamburgers and hot dogs. From there they went to the food assembly line with chief processors Diana A, Shirley B, Gary & Marian C, Marg H, Cheryl R and Bonnie S putting the meat in the buns and wrapping them in foil to keep them warm. Donna B was in charge of distribution and cheese and helped customers get their product. Shelley N took control of plates, napkins and finding the drinks. The rest of us helped out where needed... getting stuff set up, ice distribution, table hauling, sound advice, etc. Mostly though we were all in charge of having fun and it appeared that all were doing a great job of that! Another responsibility of all was quality control and all did their part by consuming burgers, hot dogs, chips, sodas and some of the great desserts donated by club members. This was an important function and helped make sure the product quality was maintained!
The food was ready for serving about 11am and we had a constant stream of Penske sales associates enjoy a lunch on us. The Service associates came through also and since it was more difficult for them to access they sent someone over with an order list and the list was cooked to order and when ready Bob Y put his truck to service to help deliver the food. We also had a steady stream of Penske customers that were treated to lunch. The day seemed to be a big success with the only regret being the weather. The rain probably kept a lot of potential Penske customers away although it held off until about 2pm and then seemed to set in. The lunch business seemed to start tapering off to almost nothing by about 2:30pm so finally the group cleaned up and departed about 3:30pm.
The club had purchased 216 frozen sirloin patties, 120 hot dogs, 200 bags of chips and 8 cases of soft drinks. Members of the club donated desserts of both purchased and home made cakes, cookies, etc. The hot dogs went quicker than anticipated and were all cooked. Some patties remained so the remaining perishables such as the patties and buns were split up among the club members to keep them from going to waste. The left over soft drinks and chips were saved for use at Wylie & Rita's upcoming Halloween party. An ample supply of cakes, sweet breads, brownies and cookies were left in the Penske show room for the associates and customers to enjoy the remainder of the day and probably well into next week!
This was not only a great way to show Penske we appreciate what they do for our club but was a well attended and fun event!
GREAT BIG THANKS TO ALL THE CLUB MEMBERS THAT DONATED THEIR TIME AND DESSERTS TO MAKE THIS A SUCCESSFUL EVENT!
THANK YOU PENSKE CHEVROLET FOR BEING SUCH A TERRIFIC SPONSOR!!!!
